I wonder if Mr. Morey can be less Morey-ish than Bob was a couple hours ago.

Stevie Ray is a decent start.

Nice TOTHC, though.  BOS, SRV.

Some XTC would be nice too.

Is this SRV painting "Superstition" by numbers?

For some reason I'm in the mood to hear Billy Joel today.  Was "A Matter of Trust" 1986?  (Would have rather gone for something from An Innocent Man, but no such.)

I predict at least 2 repeaters.  But still no Jermaine Stewart.

A little Gene Loves Jezebel ("Desire") is certainly not going to hurt, and just as certainly not going to be heard on the Drive.

So what's this playing after the Ronnie clip? The singer sounds slightly like Rufus Wainwright, but that's just nuts. He was about 6 in 1986.

Never mind. I see Mark already answered that question.

Dave's at least not relying on all of the usual suspects (so far). Still not betting agains Billy Ocean or Crowded House though.

Is this a bustout? "Sur-prize, sur-prize, sur-prize!"  I have lobbied Dave in the past for "Motion of Love" in '87 but this will do.

I am writing a paper due at 1PM, and doing a pretty piss-poor job too.  Having a year like 1986 is good because there's so little old-fart fodder to chew on, I can spend more time on my insipid paper.

I think The Stranglers' "Ghost Train" is officially a Narada.  I loved the Stranglers, but I never heard this song outside 10@10.

I kinda liked Wild At Heart. Blue Velvet was OK but not great.

Oddly enough, though- I have Roy Orbison's "In Dreams" (the song Dean Stockwell sings while Dennis Hopper & thugs stomp on Kyle in one scene) on my MP3 player and was listening to it just this morning.

PABST BLUE RIBBON!

I can fully empathize, being stuck in a rut on my own insipid paper (I'm on page 14, will probably finish at 18 ).  If you'd like to run it by me for a quick read-through/edit, I'd be happy to help.

I'd be too emabarrased.  It's a mandatory rough-draft, and I'm just going to march in with my piece of shit, and ask for guidance.

I loved Wild At Heart (mostly becasue I'm a big Nick Cage & Willem Dafoe fan), loved Blue Velvet, and really loved Mulholland Drive.  Elephant Man was excellent, but not in keeping with his remaining oevre.

Energy drinks I have consumed this month, ranked in order of effectiveness:

1. Monster - the easy winner
2. Red Bull - a strong runner-up, a tried-and-true classic
3. Full Throttle - eyes open, but questionable taste
4. New York Minute - only mildly effectual
5. Sparks - the malt liquor packs more buzz than the taurine
6. Arizona Energy - would be better in one of those 20-oz shotgun cans
7. Rockstar - love the concept, but the milk thistle painfully voids the bowels
8. Bawls - guarana and caffeine only, no all-important taurine
9. Liquid Lightning - weird aftertaste and no energizing effects to speak of

"I'm only trying to help you ..."

about the only one of his that I've seen that I found bearable was Mulholland Drive. (And oddly, I've never seen Elephant Man)  He's the Rush of film directors: willful obscurity is his stock-in-trade.  And all too many critics just eat that up with a spoon.

"commercial" is not a word I'd use to descibe it; it was a Midnite Movie cult sensation. Certainly his first film to get noticed, tho'.

If you're showing it in a theater & charging admission it's "commercial" as far as I'm concerned- but, yeah- it wasn't intended for a mainstream audience.

"Welcome To The Boomtown" & The Hooters "Day By Day" & now "Missionary Man", really evocative of 1986 for me.

I should elaborate that in '86 I was slowly realizing that the decline in music from '84 to '85 was only being exacerbated.

I just found it painfully unfunny.  I've liked Steve Martin and John Candy in plenty of other films (Edie McClurg as well) but I just thought the plot was dismal and the gags were flat.
