Hearing this reminded me that Dave promised a year or so ago to play My Red Joy Stick the next time we hit 84 (god knows how many appearances ago.) Guess I should maybe remind him.
Or maybe not. My Red Joy Stick could become the Baby Got Back of 1984.

VHM Tones On Tail:
"from the fear of being real to the fear of being really you"
nifty little summary of what adolescence was like
-
OK. The eyes were making me crazy.
ETA: WOOO! 100 posts!
-
in the name of jesus, stop playing u2!!!
it's a shame how sick bono has made me. they really headed south on a fast freight train after achtung, as far as i'm concerned.
-
Mshray: My sentiments exactly.
Nice .sig quote today, too.
-
another VHM to U2, but it remains unfortunate that they never realized that MLK Jr was shot in the early evening, not early morning. I mean it's only one little syllable, but it creates a factual error.

together! we're gonna find our way. little ricky and little alfonso. and fine ass erin grey.
who plays guitar on this song? such nice licks. sounds like some little river band. or dean parks.
-
Aw, Gaz changes his avatar & NOW Dave plays the theme to "Silver Spoons"
(I can't think of the actor's name now- but wasn't that guy in Silver Spoons, too?)
ETA: Erin Grey rules.
from South Park
Chef: Was she [can't remember name] hot or Erin-Grey-In-The-Second-Season-Of-Buck-Rogers hot?
-
Worst. TV theme. Ever.: "Silver Spoons". come to think of it, the show was pretty awful too.

alfonso rebeiro, yes.
woohoo!!! wild boys!

Beej, you are short on 'ya' on your TOT quote.

-
Easy BOS to Duran Duran! Loverly homerotic video, weird-ass lyrics -- it's the concentrated Duran!
-
woohoo!!! wild boys!
indeed, a VVHM just 'cause I can't remember Dave ever playing this one -- at least not in ages.
Alfonso can be MY wild boy... I hear Ricky Schroeder taught him everything he knows...

I thought they hit the downward skids with Joshua Tree--too preachy, didn't rock enough. Acthung was actually kind of a nice surprise. Then came that stupid lemon.
-
Beej, you are short on 'ya' on your TOT quote.
I feared as much- but I figured I'd give you the thrill of correcting me. Thanks!

YOU'RE ALL WORTHLESS AND WEAK!!!
Played for Dean Wormer, no doubt.
-
BOS2 to Taylor Dayne's former "boyfriend".

was he in that video too? I remember the other guy from AH as the kid's father.

joshua tree was a little bit acceptable because if the time. lots of activist folkie-types rearing their heads. but, yeah, the stupid lemon put u2 in my uhf category. completely non-existent.

alfonso rebeiro, yes.
woohoo!!! wild boys!
actually it's Ribeiro, not Rebeiro. (mshray is really on the job today!)
I never saw one second of that show, but the IMDb guest appearances list is impressive: Sharon Stone, Matthew Perry, Whitney Houston, Erika Eleniak, Christina Applegate, Elizabeth Berkley, Gary Coleman, Mr. T, Jason Bateman, Ray Walston & John Houseman (the last three being regulars)

Am I thinking of the "I Wanna Rock" video? Or the wrong person entirely?
-
BOS2 to Taylor Dayne's former "boyfriend".
Dee Snider?
And are you using the Thick Quotes Of Irony because she looked like a lipstick lesbian in the "Tell It To My Heart" video?
-

No, John Vernon wasn't in the Twisted Sister vid. The guy who played Neidermyer was. He was in 2, in fact. He played the teacher in "I Wanna ROCK (ROCK!)"
-
I think it'd be a great sound bite for 84 if Dave played the only-once-ever-aired-but-best-commercial-ever Macintosh commercial for 1984 -- because it was based on George Orwell's 1984.. of course it works better with the video but the sound-only version probably would be Ok.

thanks. i used to live on "rebeiro avenue," so i can never keep it straight.
hmmm....
i'll have to find some 'silver spoons' on vhs or dvd so i can see yumyum sharon stone. i remember most of the other people appearing on the show, but not her.
the coolest thing about the show was the house. everyone wanted to live in a house with a train and a jukebox. well, i did.

no, you're right. Mark Metcalf (aka Doug 'shot-by-his-own-troops' Niedermeyer) is the actor in the Twisted Sister video. Later appeared as The Maestro on several Seinfeld eps and as The Master on a bunch of Buffy eps.

Dee Snider?

I'm using the thick quotes of irony because Every. Single. Lesbian. I knew in NYC told me they knew for a fact that she was a big dyke. Lesbians don't lie, do they? Besides Snider strikes me as the sort of right-wing glam-rock closet case who'd be a lipstick lesbian's beard.

Narada of Set: Zebra, "Bears"
Oh, and Airbrush: What's that avatar you've got? Is that the Dream Academy?
-
no dissing Wang Chung today. Just say no.

(sigh) OK- but just this once.
-
no dissing Wang Chung today. Just say no.
"there, there, there."
what did we decide? "cool on christ?" i don't remember.
-
And we end poorly with Wang Chung, a song that hasn't aged well. If Ludacris covered it he could call it "ROCKS IN YA MOUF"
-
Lesbians don't lie, do they?
not when it comes to their favorite game of 'who slept with whom?'
-
Narada of Set: Zebra, "Bears"

It's a Naradatrina! It's also from '83, isn't it?

the best band of the 80s  yep, their album cover's my avatar...

maybe i'm preaching to the choir, i dunno.
But you can go to images.yahoo.com, click on the Video tab, and type in a search for "1984 Macintosh" and download/view the video if anyone's interested. It still sends chills down my back, even 20 yrs later...
Or I could upload it to the site here, tho its 13.1 MB. Just an idea...

Ha Ha!
Hey Gaz, do you remember a funny that got distibuted around Schwab back in the day? I distinctly remember getting it passed to me by Matt Kelly, it was a set of faux word problems called something like "Only in SF Math Problems"? Ring any bells?
anyway the one I remember best went something like:
Christine & Diana share a one bedroom flat in Noe Valley. To celebrate their first anniversary they buy a Jack Russell terrier. If the dog requires two walks per day and they live 2 1/2 blocks from Duboce Park, how many hours per week will they spend discussing their relationship?

I do remember that -- it was great. I think one of them dealt with how many dime bags Rollo had to sell in Hunters Point to break even for the day.

this is the original version, not the one with the ipod.
