I'm rather impressed by Maroon 5 sounding so soulful. Must've gotten a soul vaccination.

Which song were you hearing?  The four singles have all been very, very good (especially the latest, "Sunday Morning"), which makes me wonder why I haven't just bought the CD already.

Meanwhile, CG just played Albert Hammond's "The Free Electric Band."  Sounded a LOT to me like Billy Joel's "The Entertainer": who's zoomin' who?

I think it was "Sunday Morning"... unless Smooth is playing more than one Maroon5 tune.

Wow, I'd never made the Hammond/Joel connection, but you're spot on. "Free Electric Band" is my fave non-top-40 hit of that year. I thought it was gonna be huge.

wow, Lenny Williams, sans Tower of Power. Haven't heard this one since my KDIA days, roughly '91 - '97.

"I went home and I watched television until television went off..."

remember when television went off?

yes. the dreaded fuzz. and you'd turn the uhf dial around in circles, hoping it was some sort of joke.

I remember the Summer of '69, visiting my girlfriend at her parents home in Stockton.  The local channel (KCRA?) would always end with that video of the F-104 Starfighter, and the pilot's prayer, which ended up something like "slipped the surly bonds of earth, and touched the face of God"  I've been searching for that clip for years.

In NY, sometimes when local channels at 3am or so, you could pick up a hazy signal from a station in Philly.
