turned on KPOO in the middle of a cover version of "Native New Yorker" that wasn't ID'd... sounded like maybe it was Esther Phillips. New to me. Princess? Gaz? ring a bell with either of you?

Well, Google and ye shall find. From a British soul website:
"The world lost a great singer in Esther Phillips back in 1984. Esther cut several albums that were, by and large, totally overlooked. It is only recently that these albums are being re-discovered and 'All About Esther Phillips' is one such album. Released back in 1978 on Mercury, there are several tracks worth buying this set for. Esther performs a fine version of Oyssey's 'Native New Yorker'..."

CG-ing for the first time in over a week. Hope Dean's up to the challenge.
-
OMG! Jason Donovan, from the heyday of Stock/Aitken/Waterman. "Too Many Broken Hearts". Mmmm... Cheeze.
-
OMG2! Donny & Marie, "I'm Leaving It All Up to You". Haven't heard that since '76.
and now that old standby, "Grocer Jack".
-
WLNG Nugget o' the Day: Herman's Hermits, "Dandy", a forgotten gem (and a Ray Davies composition to boot).

Thanks! When I heard it I figured that growl was either Esther or Patti LaBelle. "What a difference a Native NY'er makes..."
Sorry I didn't make it the other nite. I got so comfortable on the couch watching the World Series with a glass of Chard that I just didn't want to move.

CG-ing: Roberta & Donny, "Where is the Love?"
Roberta: "It's out on that windowsill, Donny..."
-
Alison Moyet, "All Cried Out", which I haven't heard in ages.
-
Oh. My. GOD. Captain Sensible's version of "Happy Talk"! This gets flashback of the week, if not the month.
-
GAZ! WLNG is playing "1900 Yesterday". Probably the only station in America that plays it outside of a Dick Bartley show.
Afterward, the jock came on and said "when we say we play forgotten 45s... we really mean FORGOTTEN!"

Holy shit, Liz Damon's Orient Express. (Any relation to Johnny, I wonder?) Delightful.
And I'm gonna start charging you demerits every time you accuse Roberta Flack of (coaxing/pushing/inspiring) Donny Hathaway About Her out the window!

WLNG Nugget o' the day (tie): Robin Ward, "Wonderful Summer" and the Hollies, "Carrie Ann".
ETA: make it a 3-way -- Spanky & Our Gang, "I'd Like to Get to Know You".

Joe Tex, "Ain't Gonna Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman)", one of my fave disco novelties. Not that THAT'S gonna get him into the RnR HOF.
"it takes 2 hands to handle a Whopper" LOL!
-
Gladys! "Take Me In Your Arms and Love Me" (not to be confused with Kim Weston or the Doobies, "Take Me In Your Arms").
BTW I meant to post earlier: poc called last nite, Johnathan Richman had just walked into the bar where she was 'tending. She was quite excited.
-
Greg is finally gonna play "Fake" by Alexander O'Neal. My week is complete.

That indeed is where Mr Tex got it -- it was 1977.
Go Greg -- he's playing "Say it Loud" in honor of Rosa Parks.
-
WLNG Nugget o' the Day: Mr Rogers & the First Edition and the brilliant "Ruby Don't take Your Love to Town". Still gives me chills.
"For god's sake, turn around!"
-
Sweeney playing CREAM live. It's wonderful.
