KPOO is playing the famous Chevy Chase/Richard Pryor "Word Association" bit from SNL. Genius.

wow, TaMara and the Seen, "Everybody Dance", which Dave should exhume for his next '85 set. Beats Cock Robin, fer shurr.

Followed by Marvin Gaye's "Sanctified Lady", which I don't think I've ever heard on the radio.  'course y'all know what the original title was, right?

"Sanctified Kitty," right?

Amen on the Tamara & the Seen.  I have that on a compilation with stuff like "In My House," "The Glamorous Life," and "You Dropped a Bomb on Me" -- fab stuff that Dave seems all but unaware of, or at least unconvinced that there's a market for it on 10@10.

LOL! "I tawt I taw a tanctified putty-tat!"

This deejay is killing me with old commercials for blaxploitation flicks and Richard Pryor clips. "when black folks go down to the courthouse lookin' for justice, that's what they see -- just us!"

Tuning in KPOO for the first time (what have I been waiting for?) and today seems to be reggae day, at least in the PM. No fake reggae here, but not sure it's what I'm in the mood for. Looking at their sched, looks like Mondays and Fridays are the best days for soul in the afternoon--Tuesday is all-Coltrane from 1 to 4, and Thursday seems to be talk shows geared to different races and nationalities in the afternoon. Still, can't wait for Friday!

yeah, it's a jumbled sked... Mon & Fri are good, they tend to play more '80s stuff then, but Sat nite 10p-2a is where "JJ on D radio" really shines with his collection of vinyl from the 60s & 70s.  This weekend, among other delights, he played Prince, "Soft & Wet", the J-5's cover of "Forever Came Today" and the Rufus/Chaka Khan version of "Jive Talkin'" which I'd never heard.

CGSS, making Friday funky smooth.

poc: CG's next "Legends Live" concert is Alexander O'Neal -- there's a fine pic of him on their website:

Edwin Starr, "Headline News", even harder-to-find than "S-O-S", to which it bears more than a passing resemblance.

oo! Greg's playing lots of Alexander O'Neal today. Yum.

KPOO's got JJ on D Radio 'til 5:30. The Deele, "Two Occasions", which I haven't heard in ages (and would be a fine addition to any '88 set).

and now he's playing the new Stevie, a rather sappy ballad called "Shelter in the Rain".

JJ's playing a post-Katrina anti-Bush rap!

"George Bush ain't a gold-digga
He ain't f**kin' wit no broke niggas"

LOL!

Tried tuning in KPOO earlier, but had many buffering issues so bailed to CG around 2. Sweeney's been OK today. Just missed all but the end of 2-4-6-8 Motorway, and now he's playing Donovan's Catch the Wind, which would be a welcome nugget had it not been appropriated by a car maker who's name is escaping me (so take that, usurpers of pop culture!)

based on kanye west's hit song. here's a direct link to the video (http://ia300110.us.archive.org/1/items/TheBlackLanternGeorgeBushDoesntCareAboutBlackPeopleMusicVideo/GBDCABP.mov).

i never knew it was "the deele." i always spelled it "deal."

Anticipate a resurgence of interest in it: it's directly referenced in Mariah Carey's recent #1 smash "We Belong Together."  (As is Bobby Womack's "If You Think You're Lonely Now.")[/i]

Volvo.  Of course Mr Leitch is a commercial veteran ("Wear Your Love Like Heaven" was a perfume ad in 1968!) and his songs have been all over the place in the last year or so.

Last nite I saw another car ad that used a version of "Take me for a ride in the car car" which I always thought was a Woody Guthrie song.  Does Arlo need the bread?
