Title: Katrina Is a Wave
Post by: princessofcairo on September 08, 2005, 06:37:46 PM
I suppose we needed a thread. Just wanted to put my bet in that Bush's billions of aid will head straight to oil refinery rebuilding. Look - I'm using CAPS. I must be serious.

I'm sure you'll win that bet.

Just saw the rerun of last nite's Daily Show -- Mr Stewart has been just merciless, thank god.  The clips he showed of FEMA's Mr Brown on CNN and Nightline -- just unbelieveable! "Don't you people watch TV and listen to the radio?"

On the lighter side:

"In the French Quarter, Addie Hall and Zackery Bowen found an unusual way to make sure that police officers regularly patrolled their house. Ms. Hall, 28, a bartender, flashed her breasts at the police vehicles that passed by, ensuring a regular flow of traffic."

Let the good times roll!

Something we're NOT hearing on CNN or MSNBC. At least not yet:

And wow.  One of the saddest and most disturbing things I've ever read. And I shudder to think what sort of hay the Repugnican Right may try to make of it.

Maybe I'll catch hell for saying this, but I think the doctors made the correct decision in acting with the highest degree of compassion that was possible under the circumstances.  The moral of the story: If you're checking into a hospital with a serious/terminal illness, check into one high on a hill in a placid area.

No opinion, though, on the nursing home owners who are facing 30-odd counts of murder-accessory (?) charges for not evacuating their patients -- I haven't heard their side/explanation of things.  I don't think I'd dare demonize the acts of anyone who was trapped in that situation at this point.

Hope you're all well.  Got back from DC late last night, enjoyed the summit immensely (and briefly met Mike Mills, George Clinton and Hank Shocklee) but am under rather severe illness and even more severe workload at present.  Gonna need a significant recovery downtime after cranking out two significant articles and a couple minor ones.  Wake me up when September ends, indeed.

Q: What is Bush's position on Roe vs. Wade?
A: He really doesn't care how people get out of New Orleans.

nothing in the onion is "for real" -- that's why it's the onion.  I'm betting she doesn't have another son.

BTW, maybe we should change the name of this thread to "Not-So-Lovely Rita"?

Galveston, oh Galveston...

Not to make light of other's misfortune, y'understand, but:  earlier on CNN they did a report on Katrina refugees who are trying to move back to New Orleans, only to find that "rents have doubled and in some cases tripled" in their absence. And I thought, Damn, That's Harsh.

But then they interviewed a woman and her daughter who were outraged that the 3-bedroom apartment they looked at had been jacked up to the unbelievable price of... $1250 a month.

Hey Gaz -- still thinking about moving?
