Post by: RGMike on March 21, 2013, 07:41:00 AM
RR's clue: "The year we lost Mama Cass" -- sadly, I'll be at an offsite from 930 - 230 so i'll have to miss this one.

Last 1974 set (Jan 22nd):

Quote
1. Jefferson Starship - Ride the Tiger
(TV Theme Song Medley)
2. Fleetwood Mac - Heroes Are Hard to Find
3. The Rolling Stones - It's Only Rock and Roll (But I Like It)
4. Joni Mitchell - Court and Spark
5. Jimmy Buffet - A Pirate Looks At Forty
(News: Marijuana is a gateway drug)
6. Bad Company - Can't Get Enough
7. Carl Carlton - Everlasting Love
8. Raspberries - Overnight Sensation
(News: Fuel shortage.)
9. Rufus - Tell Me Something Good
10. The Eagles - Already Gone

Not a rarity in the realm of 10@10 but it never fails to put a smile on my face nonetheless. VHM. Here's hoping they dig a little deeper for a nugget or two before we're done.

Ah, the tune my pals and I knew as Scarlet Begoninas. (We knew better of course, but there was a typo on the Mobile Fidelity reissue of Mars Hotel that we just ran with).

Geoff, what's the story behind the "ugly rumors" thing? Was there some kind of secret meaning behind those words (upside down and backward) on the cover?

Will we get a songs from '74 were so short comment? Of course, this set went for the pop charts mostly and skipped the prog.

Was wondering the same thing. Had this set started at 10 on the dot, it wouldn't even be 10:40 yet.

Yeah, there must have been several songs, er, musical suites, released in '74 that were longer than the entire set put together.

One of the most precise arrangements of theirs.  It very quickly became less organized in a live setting.  I love it!

He wrote it for Elvis, who turned it down... but who did it in his live shows later on after Swan's version hit #1.

Don't feel like I missed anything major here. And yes, it's totally Morey-licious.

My alternative 1974 playlist:

 1. Daryl Hall & John Oates - Can't Stop The Music (He Played It Much Too Long)
 2. Prelude - After The Goldrush
(Paul McCartney talks about Peggy Lee)
 3. Peggy Lee - Let's Love
 4. Glen Campbell - Houston (I'm Comin' To See You)
(TV: The Rockford Files)
 5. Fancy - Wild Thing
 6. Chicago - Prelude To Aire / Aire
(HFH Medley: Terry Jacks - Seasons In The Sun / Blue Swede - Hooked On A Feeling / Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods - Billy, Don't Be A Hero / Paper Lace - The Night Chicago Died)
 7. Patti Dahlstrom - He Did Me Wrong, But He Did It Right
 8. Grateful Dead - Ship Of Fools
(News: Nixon resigns)
 9. Lamont Dozier - Fish Ain't Bitin'
10. David Bowie - Sweet Thing / Candidate / Sweet Thing (Reprise)

I was tempted to include Robert Palmer's "Sailin' Shoes/Hey Julia/Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley", but that's such a frequent flier, as good as it may be...  :)
