Time for a new game. I'll "spy" a song, and whoever names it gets to "spy" the next one. In the advanced edition all the spied songs will have a common theme, but let's start with the intro edition now.
I SPY, with my little eye: a Top 10 hit from 1969 that rhymes "mighty bad" with "mighty mad."
Have at it!

That would be Edwin Starr, "25 Miles". Come on feet, don't fail me now!
I Spy with my little eye... a Top Ten hit from 1976 that mentions both Euell Gibbons and John Keats.

I know this, but I'd rather let someone else have a turn.

I googled it, so I'm not answering either. Though my initial thought that it was some kind of novelty song was pretty accurate.

It's "Junk Food Junkie" but I have no idea who did it (without cheating, at least).
I Spy with my little eye... a pair of distinct songs, (written & performed by separate artists) that not only share the identical title, they also feature the same keyboard player.
(both songs are well within the KFOG format, the keyboardist in question is a regular member of one band & a guest on the other track.)

I haven't been able to come up with the answer to Mark's I Spy, but I know who did Junk Food Junkie: Larry Groce, who is now the host of Mountain Stage, a weekly live music show that airs on public and community radio.

in case my concept isn't clear let me put it this way: for the past two years at least, when KFOG does their A-Z extravaganza in February, these two songs play back to back & they also have the same keyboard player.

something by santana?
-
nope not Santana. And I got your voicemail, btw.
Okay, another hint. In the case of RB's normal band, the song in question is the title track. In the case of his guest appearance, which came out 7 years earlier, the song is the leadoff track, but it's track #3 that is one of those left-handed title tracks (contains the album title in the lyrics, but is itself differently titled).
Both albums appeared in the 80's.

I spy with my little eye... an I Spy nobody seems to be getting.
-
Okay, RB the keyboardist is Roy Bittan, & in 1980 he appeared on the Making Movies album, including the track "Tunnel Of Love". In 1987 he was naturally the keyboardist on the title track of Bruce Springsteen's Tunnel Of Love.
But since nobody got it I get to go again:
I Spy a 70's top hit song that mentions "a crate of papaya".

friggin' obvious from the reverse angle, but I never would have gotten it!
Brilliant! Friggin' Briliiant!

Steve Miller, Jungle Love?
And by way of cross-posting, I always thought he was singing "I brought you a grated papaya." Who knows, maybe you were making a smoothie.

Ding ding ding! I google it, so I know you are correct. And it's your turn.

yeah, me, too! strange...well, it's not that far off, aurally. but why would anyone grate a papaya? and if you did, you wouldn't say "i brought you A grated papaya." that's just wrong.
