The year I first met other 10@10ers!
-
I made my request for "Sex Bomb" by Tom Jones -- fat chance!
-
I think there's an outside chance for Outkast -- Annalisa liked my request and the +1 for Ms. Jackson.
Fingers crossed
-
AL posted a link to one of my requests (Ryan Adams' "To Be Young...") so I'm guessing that won't get played. No idea about the other one--"Mr. E's Beautiful Blues"--but I'm hopeful. But I won't be listening--got a market at the Nike HQ in Beaverton tomorrow, so post generously (and with artists AND titles, pls) so I'll know whether to catch the replay or not.

Very possible -- after all, she played Eminem in 1999!
-

BNLs get a VHM.

~giggle!~
random Foghead: "Ms A's giggle always makes me smile..."
*ahem*

BOS Almost Famous
"Pretty Good Lookin'"? not ringing a bell.

"Pretty Good Lookin'"? not ringing a bell.
Me neither.
-
Wait 10@10 has poppy, folky music on today? No way!
-
We've heard this Vertical Horizon in either '99 or '01, no?
-
I'm not recognizing most of these songs. Out of touch, out of time...
-
VHM David Gray, just 'cause it's not "Babylon".
-
BOS Almost Famous
I've been looking for AF On Demand for some time now, and it just doesn't seem to be available. I'm guessing there are licensing issues, but I don't know...
-
Hi guys, long time no see! Sorry I've been absent from this board for a while - my work hours were moved up, so I can't listen from home anymore; and we've been putting a lot of time and work into our new apartment. I hope all is well with you all! Will catch up on threads over the next several days when my staycation starts. Cheers!
Gaz
PS: HM to David Gray; BOS to Sade. I'm immediately transported in time by those two back to back.
-
BOS2 Sade!!!
-
Lovin' my Sade request. :)
-
I fail to understand the popularity of the Meet the Parents/Fockers series.
-
BOS2 Sade!!!
Oh, hell yeah!
WOS Matchbox20. @#$%!!!!!
-
WOS for Matchbox 20. I don't care how bent he is.
-
This Matchbox 20 song is a guilty pleasure of mine. Rob Thomas has had his moments as a songwriter.
-
WOS1
Cher Rob Thomas & his M-20.
WOS2 Crapton.
-
We've heard this Vertical Horizon in either '99 or '01, no?
That song was on the charts so damn long, it might well qualify in all three ...
-
WOS to the noxious Uncle Kracker and "Follow Me." Can't believe he built a career on that shit.
-
WOS3 Unkle Krackhead.
-

sounds like he's using Auto-tune.
-
I fail to understand the popularity of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Recycled Seinfeld + 4-letter-words.
-
What was that exceedingly boring movie clip?
Is this the Jayhawks? Not bad and NTM, but not remarkable.
-

Thank YOU. I thought it was just me. I can't sit through 5 mins of that shit.
BOS2 Jayhawks
-
wow, that was Shelby Lynne? belated BOS4!

BOS2 Jayhawks
Me three. But then, I am one of the very few who doesn't enjoy Seinfeld much either.
BOS, Sade.
-
BOS to JayHawks, that was a pleasant tune.
I think Curb is pretty funny, but I understand it's not for everyone.
-
WOS3 Unkle Krackhead.
Agreed. Worse than meatsweat.
-
I fail to understand the popularity of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Recycled Seinfeld + 4-letter-words.
Having watched an episode of Seinfeld last night, I don't know how I could ever stand a laugh track. Totally obnoxious.
Curb takes a few viewings to get into, but the last couple of seasons have been gold.

The missus hates this show too. Makes me watch it on my own time.

totally love Curb, but it took a few episodes to get into it. seriously, I never laughed as hard as when I watched the episode Krazee Eyez Killa in Season 3. I can see where it can irk people, just like George on Seinfeld.

I think the ep of Curb that won me over was the one where Larry and Ted Danson opened that restaurant w the chef who had Tourette's syndrome.
I don't like swearing, but I like Curb. Talk about contradictions.

Blahhhh...just got back from class. Guess I'll have to catch the replay tonight.
Anyway, pulling today's setlist from yes.com:
Barenaked Ladies - Pinch Me
The White Stripes - You're Pretty Good Looking (For A Girl)
Vertical Horizon - Everything You Want
Shelby Lynne - Gotta Get Back
David Gray - Sail Away
Sade - By Your Side
Matchbox Twenty - Bent
Eric Clapton - Riding With The King (w/ B.B. King)
Uncle Kracker - Follow Me
The Jayhawks - I'm Gonna Make You Love Me
Doesn't look half bad, except for Uncle Kracker. I enjoy the Matchbox Twenty song. Full ratings tonight.

S**t n****z! Why didn't nobody mention nuthin' about The White Stripes! De Stijl is their best album!

S**t n****z! Why didn't nobody mention nuthin' about The White Stripes! De Stijl is their best album!
I don't think she played the White Stripes .. did she?
I believe yes.com got it wrong.
... but I would have liked their Zep-ish I'm Bound to Pack It Up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9kwuBUJ9XI), the only song I know from that record.

I love that song; that's the one I requested. But I also love the one she played. Actually, I didn't listen, but I'm going with a couple of mentions on Annalisa's page as confirmation that she played it.
-
Did I miss the White Stripes?
The song clocked in at 1:50, so it's very possible to have missed it.
-

Melissa, the song clocked in at 1:50, so it's very possible to have missed it.
I honestly didn't realize it was them.

Going by what Mike wrote @ 10:09:
"Pretty Good Lookin'"? not ringing a bell.
This does seem match the title of the WS song, which yes lists @ 10:07. I wouldn't put it past AL to play an obscure WS song...nor would I put it past the WS to have a few non-WS sounding WS songs.

My favorite episode this season was "Palestinian Chicken".
"But Larry, they're anti-Semitic". "Yep, but that's the best fucking chicken I've ever tasted".
"Come on Larry, fuck me like you fucked our country"

Swearing has its place if used in a clever way, and when it’s not done for swearing’s sake.

right. I agree, it has its place:

when I hear it in pop songs I usually end up shaking my head and get all indignant: tsk tsk, Little Lion Man, you really did f*** it up this time!

I would've put this under the List Thread...
It could've been worse. It could've been Oasis!

This is a particularly vomit-worthy passage:
"Coldplay was voted Best Act in the World Today, although lead singer Chris Martin disagreed with the accolade.
'U2 are the best band in the world at the moment. We are about seventh,' he said."
I do like the Noel Gallagher quote in the article, though.
And thanks for the posting tip!

heh, it's sort of funny, but if you don't like Coldplay (or if you hate them, which seems to be rather common), I could see some vomitus in your future.
RGMike recenly posted a link to Sasha-Frere Jones New Yorker blog WHY DON’T I LIKE COLDPLAY? AN INVESTIGATION (http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/sashafrerejones/2011/10/why-dont-i-like-coldplay-an-investigation.html), and Chris Martin's false modesty was one reason. He does seem like a nice guy, but maybe that super-nice-guy act wears thin with some. The day before she posted her blog, KFOG aired a morning show taped phone-in interview with Colplay. Martin said "we might tour (to support this new album); we'll have to see if the record gets a good reception."
Irish Greg said "Well, that just sounds like false modesty."
Chris Martin said "well... fuck you!" (they bleeped it, natch).
...everyone laughed and laughed, and Greg said something like, "That's fair, I've got no problem with that."

Domo arigato, Mylo Xyloto. DOMO!
Don't care for Coldplay or the singer, but don't feel the need to clog up AL's FB page about it either. Oh, and I just read this today:

So glad I'm not the only one who had thought that the first time I read that title. :D
Just curious: did any of the songs to which AL posted links last night get played in today's set?
-
Excellent investigative work, Det. radical347!
Thanks Josh! :D

Good ratings:
A
David Gray
Matchbox Twenty
Sade
B
Vertical Horizon
White Stripes
Barenaked Ladies
C
Shelby Lynne
Jayhawks
Eric Clapton
F
Uncle Kracker
Necessary ratings:
A
Sade (Did this ever chart on AAA? If not, it should have)
Vertical Horizon (The poster child for AAA, it did crossed over to become the #1 pop hit of 2000 after all)
B
Shelby Lynne
Barenaked Ladies
White Stripes
Eric Clapton
Jayhawks
David Gray (Something more upbeat from him would have been better...like Please Forgive Me, which would have been perfect for 10@10. But yeah, at least it wasn't Babylon.)
C
Matchbox Twenty
F
Uncle Kracker (Not particularly good & added nothing to the set)
Overall...great set. Sounded like 2000 for sure & something for everyone.
