We're due for a good mid-week set--1973 maybe? (Hope springs eternal...)
ETA:
Damn!!! How'd I know?
-
We haven't heard '74 in awhile, right? I vote for '74.
-
Wow! Good call, urth!
-
1973 holds promise.

Dave figured you deserved just one victory...
-
Nice job, Kreskin Urth!
Starting off with the perennial BOS contended, TODD ... Sounding very good and very appropriate today. "Just one victory, and we're on our way" -- I certainly hope so. (Currently in networking mode from home. I've been guest-listed for a Clarks concert this Saturday but haven't gotten any work yet.)

Hearing this always makes me want to hear the Hello People.
-
Watergate montage into "Us & Them" -- Dave's hot today!
-
been sick for a few days; nice to hear this.
-
it would be nice to hear this, then PF's "On the Turning Away"
-
VHM to Schoolhouse Rock, a very vivid and influential part of my formative years. Yay for "Three Is a Magic Number," later recorded to nice effect by Blind Melon (their last recording before Shannon Hoon's death, I think).
-
HM "3 Is a magic Number". Geez, this takes me back!
"Man and a woman had a little baby... now there's 3! 3... It's a magic number..."
-
Wanna be startin' something! A VHM to "Soul Makossa."
Now, if Dave would follow this up with the Incredible Bongo Band's "Apache," I'd be delirious.

Didn't De La Soul also do something with this?

and sampled by De La Sould too, as I recall.
VHM Soul Makosssa! The summer I graduated High School and got my first part-time job; just about any song from that time brings back vivid memories .

I'm feeling a bit delirious. This preceded by Magic Number sounds so good.
I'm busily sending off resumes. Just sent 5. Working on another. It's a numbers game I think.

We're looking at a potentially lengthy set here--it's 10:20 and we're only just ending the third song of the set.
-
Rita Moreno making her second appearance on 10at10 in nearly as many weeks...
"HEEEYYY YOOUUU GUUUUUYYYYYS!"
-
VHM Electric Co. Morgan Freeman before he was anybody.
-
HEEEEEYYYY YOOOOOUUUUU GGGGGGUUUUUUYYYYYYYSSSSS !!!!!!!
Big love to Ruth Buzzi and the Electric Company, another big part of my childhood.
Segueing into "Mind Games," though? Seems a trife cynical ...
-
A second contender to SchoolHouse Rock
Am I into the double digit posts yet?

Here, Rastermon, I'll help you build up posts:
"Knock, knock...."
-
BOS Eagles, their finest (and least commercially successful) LP.
-
Dave, like Wu-Tang, is for the kids, y'all.
-
HM for ZOOM & those damn stripey rugby shirts.
-
Wow!! It's the Public TV Kids Show Spectacular! I remember Zoom well--I had such a preadolescent crush on one of the girls on that show!
And VHM for It Never Rains in Southern California, if only for the flashback factor.
-

This is helping my mood a lot. I just confirmed with my co-worker that my cow-orker not only is clueless but also a liar. Just now he has sent an email defending (to someone else) something he did that was ridiculously redundant, and in so doing falsely claimed that he had discussed it beforehand with me & my co-worker. As if I had approved his assinine behavior.
I've been putting up with this fool for too long, and this just about does it.
-
Livin our childhoods again
-
HM for ZOOM & those damn stripey rugby shirts.
I remember Zoom more than the Electric Co. That was local here was it not? I think I wanted to be a Zoom kid.
-

ditto -- a fine pop single. Wish I'd heard Albert Hammond's guest stint on CG over the weekend, if only because I'm sure they played "The Free Electric Band".
-
VHM It Never Rains in So Cal. This takes me back, nicely.
-

Just give the word, dude, and I'll go all Left Hand of God on 'im.
-
BOS to Albert Hammond, "It Never Rains in SoCal," even if it hits a bit close to home sometimes. Some great, crisp pop songwriting; wish people worked this formula still today.
-
I am so close to 400 posts.

I wanted to be on Romper Room. Anyone else watch that?

Zoom was my favorite. There was one kid I really identified with. I remember they were doing a skit with a damsel trapped in a tower and the kid kept blowing his lines: "don't you know damsels are supposed to cry for trelp?" or something like that. It was one of the first casts.

yes -- in the early '60s. Didn't realize it was still around for your childhood. Do bee Do bee Do!
-
People talk about Lou getting a pass on "even when she was giving head" -- I'm just as surprised he got a pass on "and the colored girls sing."
-
Alicat - not sure what you mean if Zoom was local.. :?: I grey up in Colorado, and watched it there too. Surely you remember that OH TOO WON THREE FOR is in Boston Mass.
-
OMFG!!! Gilbert O! "Get Down" a 10@10 breakout and about damn time. New BOS for me.
-
AAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHH! MY EARS!!!!!!!
WOS to "Get Down," insipid songwriting even for a second-rate Leo Sayer (who at least had vocal range).
-
Beej, expert on TV says:
ZOOM was taped in Boston Mass (just like the song says) in distributed through PBS. We all saw the same ZOOMs.
Romper Room was a franchise. Stations bought the rights to stage their own Romper Rooms based on the formula. I remember RR from when I was a kid in West Virginia- but my 'Miss Nancy' wasn't the same 'Miss Nancy' on Ch2 in Oaklnad (that was an actress/comic/motivational speaker Ruby Unger.
AHHHHH! The Double Deckers! AHHHH! NOOOO!
-
The unmistakable voice of Gerry Rafferty. A Stealer's Wheel breakout? I've never heard this before, at any rate.

I am shocked and disappointed  Silly, yes (it's about a dog, for chrissakes), but a catchy pop ditty IMHO.

Dave's played this often enough. the follow-up to "Stuck in the Middle", as you can tell.

I've heard it before, but somehow it really strikes me today. Off to search for a download.

I wanted the teacher to say my name soooo badly. I had Romper Stompers. Cup like things with plastic rope attached so you could walk around on them.

Hey Urth, any chance you archived this one last night? If recent history is any guide it'll show up again about 7:45 on Saturday morning, which is probably before you like to wake up.

Well, I turned on the recorder around 9 before I left to go see Gang of Four, and shut it off when I got home. So yeah, barring technological fuckup (which has been known to happen), I should have it.

How was Gang Of Four? I was just listening to a bunch of their stuff the last couple of days.
It probably goes without saying, but I'm definitely interested in adding that '73 set to my collection.

I'd like 73 too. :D
Please and thank you.

Was reading back thru this thread while putting the 73 set to disc, and realized I never followed up on this post. Apologies--the past few weeks at work have been a bit, ummm, trying, due to a reorganization that was not a terribly popular decision with the rank and file. (No danger of losing job, but just a lot of disgruntled coworkers.) Anyway, as a result, I've got lots more work to accomplish in my day, and can't interact here as much as I'd always like to. Boo.
Gang of Four were pretty good for a bunch of middle-aged guys. Played with lots of energy and conviction. Jon King kept the beat for one song by beating time on an old microwave oven with a bat--reduced both the microwave and the bat to shards by the end of the song. They hit most of the songs I wanted to hear (nearly all of Entertainment!) but inexplicably left out I Love a Man in Uniform. (Heard they had played it the night before though.) Gaz, if you can work it into your budget, I highly recommend seeing these blokes when they make it to NY. And I gather that Entertainment! is due for a Rhino rerelease in the next month or so with added tracks etc.
And yeah, I got you guys covered for this set.
