In light of Alicat's and Davefish's employment challenges, it seems worth noting that I've joined the ranks: I am no longer employed at the day job. No more Burgermeister Meisterburger. So here's hoping I can line up enough copy edit shifts and freelance assignments to hold me over until a full-time req comes through for me.

Bummer, tho' as I've said -- you're damn good and the BM didn't deserve to have you. Let him do his own damn payroll.

Sorry to hear. Take it as a liberating move that will bring bigger and better. Can you find telecommute edit opps? I applied for a writing job at Apple but it didn't go anywhere. I'm wrapping up where I am now for the next few weeks and starting to think about needing to line up health insurance on my own. Probably costs $800/month for family.
I'm worried about loss of stable income but kind of wondering about the possibility of having the summer off and going to a LOT of ball games.

Joe, sorry to hear you're at loose ends, but you will be far better off in the long run to be out of there. If CNET needs any NY-based copydesk help I'll put your name in post-haste.

As if hearing me, the oldies station played "Tiny Dancer" when I got home -- a security blanket of a song, if ever there was one.
Thanks, all. I know this is a good-riddance-to-bad-trash situation but we are all resistant to change deep down. As such, I'm a little edgy still.

Speaking of musical security blankets, here's "You to Me Are Everything" on CG.
