Decided to switch over here after looking at the songs we could expect in the KFOG set today and I'm glad I did--caught the end of Queen's I'm In Love With My Car. BOS!
"String-back gloves with my automo-love!"
And another BOS to one Dave's never played--Chicago's Old Days. They had slipped inexorably away from jazz into pop by this period, but it was catchy pop. It would only get worse.

is that a real ad from '75? "AMC Pacer -- the car with a big rear!"

Sure looks like it, but it's in French. Did they export the Pacer to France? Who knew?
Wow, this Rod the Mod is a blast from the past!

WHOA! Another from the non-Dave Playbook (and proxy of Shray): Terrible Ted, Stranglehold!
At least he was smart enough to hire a real vocalist on this record. Later he just sang everything himself--and he gots no kinda singing voice, lemme tellya. (See also: Wango Tango)

Back in a poppier direction: Lady Elton wants to tell him what you wantin' with the white man's world?
Followed by the Dan, Black Friday. Somewhat timely. Watching the grey men as they dive from the 14th floor.

"she's a BIG girl -- she stands 6-foot-3!" Er, dude... she's a dude. Ah, springtime in Manhattan: Central Park trees blooming, tranny hooker biz booming!

Nazareth takes Gram Parsons to the Top 10. Love Hurts.
(This may be from the wrong year depending on what rule they're using--it entered the charts on January 3, so it was probably out in '75 but didn't chart til the following year.)
-
And we wrap up, oh so tastefully, with Jeff Beck's Freeway Jam.
-
BOS Jeff Beck, just because I'm going to his show next Thursday. And, taking Friday off! Mini-rockin vacation!

Nice--I am envious!

Landslide - Fleetwood Mac
I'm in Love with My Car - Queen
Old Days - Chicago
Houses of the Holy - Led Zeppelin
I Don't Want to Talk About It - Rod Stewart
Stranglehold - Ted Nugent
Island Girl - Elton John
Black Friday - Steely Dan
Love Hurts - Nazareth
Freeway Jam - Jeff Beck
That's a fine lineup. Dave's only played the Queen track in a "car tunes" set, iirc. Bob's the only other guy who's played "Stranglehold", and the Rod Stewart might be an ATBB.

I adore this version (thanks to my K-Tel Dynomite LP, which included a ~two minute edit of Love Hurts), but it still cannot touch the Everly Brothers' original.

Indeed--I stand corrected. Always thought Gram Parsons wrote that one--how could I have missed the Everlys?

actually, I think the Bryants wrote it, no? But the Everlys recorded it first and then many many covers followed.
