Title: CG/KPOO/KCDX etcetcetc for the week of 4/13/09

KPOO's DJ Marilynn is on some sort of world tour, but she left shows behind for playback.  Today there's a "money" theme for Tax Day.  If Ruth Brown can't sell it, she's gonna sit on it!

Well, I know we won't get a new Tax Set from Dave, but for future reference: Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, "What If We All Stopped Payin' Taxes?"  Kudos to DJ Marilynn for playing this.

Judge plays one of DeBarge's lovely early-'80s ballads, "Time Will Reveal". Swoon!

Just 'cause Cher is leaving, she'll still be your dad. er -- what?  One of her best, and I still marvel at her refusal to change the gender.

OMFG! Keith, with one of his follow-ups to "98.6", "Tell Me To My Face" --someone else did this too, but I'm drawing a blank.

ETA: oh of COURSE -- it's a Hollies tune. And Dan Fogelberg covered it too.

I made it my blog song today, in lieu of Fred Wesley & the JBs' "I'm Payin' Taxes, What Am I Buyin'?"

PS: I totally agree re the gender bend of "You Better Sit Down, Kids."

another OMG flashback: Night's "If You Remember Me" -- has Josh Groban covered this?

and it's followed by Frankie Valli's forgotten "Girl You're Gonna Hurt Yourself", a sunshiny number that could easily have been covered by Spiral Starecase.

WLNG often plays Mama Cass' "It's Getting Better" but this is the first time in ages I've heard anyone play "There's a New World Comin'", which (sadly) never made the Top 40. Quite a flashback.

I think Billy Joel listened to "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" a few times before he wrote "The Downeaster Alexa".

Beautiful song. Covered by the Scud Mountain Boys (who later morphed into the Pernice Brothers) about 15 years ago.
