When I was a TA for the History of Popular Culture class at UCSB (HIST 373S, an upper division course) students had the option of a 25 page term paper in lieu of the final exam. Prof Nash told me that a couple years earlier (which would have made it circa 1986) a girl had submitted a paper on the Doors, in which she claimed first hand memories of Jim Morrison, who allegedly had lived with her mom in Big Sur in the mid 70's.
The rest of her paper was rather well done, so he gave her a B-.
