Title: New Bruce

Every time I hear the new Bruce tune I think I'm hearing Warren Zevon.

Speaking of Bruce, here's the latest project I'm considering, as if I reasonably have time:

http://www.outreach.psu.edu/conf/Springsteen/

http://www.outreach.psu.edu/conf/Springsteen/default.asp?WhichPage=Proposal

If I submit a proposal, it'll be something on the order of "Cover Me: From the Pointer Sisters to Frankie Goes To Hollywood, What Other Artists Find in Bruce."

Any immediate thoughts?

(Also, anyone else hear the album yet?  I'm somewhat excited about it.)

I've only heard the track KFOG is playing (referenced by Alicat above). It's good, but frankly, Nebraska and Tom Joad are Springsteen albums I listened to once, admired, and put away.  So I can't imagine getting heavily into this new one if it's all-of-a-piece like those two.

But Bruce covers are an endless source of pleasure; don't forget Donna Summer and of course the country stuff.

As it happened, I ended up watching this "Storytellers" episode with Bruce.  Pretty cool.  He'd play a song, or part of one, accompanying himself on accoustic guitar or piano, and then start analyzing his own lyrics.  Or tell the story of how the song came about.  The best was "Blinded By the Light," where he describes himself frantic with a notebook in one hand and a rhyminig dictionary in the other.  "And then the dictionary was about to burst into flames."
