I'll be sad if this means no Tax Set Friday. Dave promises this set will not be "rude". Too bad.

Are you sure he didn't promise the set wouldn't be "rued"?
Actually, I hope some Foghead suggested something like "The Wheels On The Bus Go Round And Round."
Or "White Lines (Don't Don't Do It)," though I'm sure that's precisely the kind of stuff Dave seeks to avoid.
-
"White Lines (Don't Don't Do It),"
LSHIPMP!!!
-
My day would be made if Dave played "Blind In Texas" by W.A.S.P.

I would imagine this would mean that, between the Tax set and the Earth Day set, we won't get one of them. A couple of the usual theme sets have been passed on this year (April Fools was the most recent). Personally, given how predictable the Tax Day set has become (Robert Cray's I Hate Taxes, Money, Taxman, It's Money That Matters, Money For Nothing, you could probably name the rest), I could very easily skip it this year.
A lot of the Earth Day set would probably go well on the President's iPod....
-
Easiest bet of the set: that we hear "Fortunate Son." I say it comes up as Tune Number Ten.
"American Idiot" was a good call, I have to say.

I guarantee that either CCR or Green Day was the leading vote getter.

Except for its place in the set, you're dead on the money!

As the Encyclopedia Brittanica kid used to say: "And there it is."
-
Here's Mike's Steve Earle, does this mean I get my Sinead, too?
-
"The Revolution Starts Now"- for as much as I'm hearing this on the radio (KFOG, naturally- but it also turned up on a Little Steven's Underground Garage recently)- I can't remember the name of the poor yutz who sings it.
-
Steve Earle. OK.
-
God(dess) Bless Steve Earle.
-
Here's Mike's Steve Earle, does this mean I get my Sinead, too?
btw, this song has really grown on me, has anyone heard the whole album & can recommend it?
-
You know what would kick ass? If Dave followed this with Judas Priest's "Revolution" off their new album. It kicks leather-clad ass.
-
"For What It's Worth" isn't a very good choice IMHO. W ain't the mayor of Sunset Strip!
-
Short set, song #4 starting at 10:09.
But then W has a pretty damn short attention span anyway.
-
Great set. Why o why did he get re-elected!? We did get fooled again.

Speaking of "Won't Get Fooled Again", Gaz wasn't your old roommate involved in the live version of this that was filmed specifically for The Kids Are Alright?
-

because he's Gawd's Chozen Prezzydint!

I wish I could say for sure. Richard told me a number of stories about his past as a lighting designer for various concerts, but I just don't know if that was one of them. It feels like a lifetime ago that I lived there in the 'Loin. I'm impressed with your memory!

good choice for me!
-
fuckin' A!
gets my blood pumpin' big time.
-
My brother considers that yowl at the end of "Won't Get Fooled Again" to be the greatest yell in rock history. I don't agree but I don't have a counterargument.

As I recall he had a couple of framed photos of the laser production & if I'm not mistaken, he did both this & the Wings concert movie.
-
Best sentiment of set:
"Blind faith in your leaders will get you killed."
Now more than ever.

I think Bruce just gave you one, but I'll stick with Roger myself.
-
WOW. BOS to Broooce. "Blind faith in your leaders will get you killed," indeed. I'd forgotten how powerful that opening was.

I really like the eerie, jangly guitar intro and rap, but the actual song, done by Bruce seems kind of Vegas-like.
-
so, does Dave play Pete Seeger's "Waist Deep in the Big Muddy" next?
-
This is quite powerful overall, easily the most political 10@10 ever.

LOL! I'd LOVE that.

If it's an all-request set, that won't happen.

I'd nominate the set from election day last year for that honor.
-
REM -- very appropriate, given Dubya's love of Rapture Theology.

Knee deep in the Big Muddy
And the damn fools keep yelling to push on
Waist deep in the Big Muddy

Waist deep! Neck deep! we'll be drowning before too long
We're neck deep in the Big Muddy
And the damn fools keep yelling to push on

My BOS goes to Randy Newman.

I'm not a huge Randy Newman fan but I'm lovin this.

What's So Funny About Peace, Love, and Understandin'?
[invisibly dancing, as I type!]
-
don't wanna hurt no kangaroo...
BOS and Great American Songwriter Award of Set to Mr Newman.
"and he said 'Randy... how would YOU like to be the Boss for awhile?'"
-
Not to sound too cynical, but since about the Who song, I've been having the escalating feeling that I've heard this set before. The Who, Bruce, REM, Randy Newman, and even the Elvis--all great songs and worthy sentiments, but I just feel like this is a bit of a rehash.

Well, it is a Foghead-generated list. And Dave's lurking & heard you, Urth! Notice how he stressed Foghead-generated. Heh.

That's what Fogheads do -- they rehash. With a rehash pipe.

I think Randy Newman's brilliant, but I can't help but feel there's at least as much he owes to Tom Lehrer as George Harrison owes to the Chiffons.

Damn, missed a pretty good set, it seems. One of the fun things about reading the posts after the fact is that you get to try to rebuild the song list in your head. Not sure yet what the Springsteen or Randy Newman songs are...
My pick for the set would have been Barry Maguire's (McGwire, McGuire?) "Eve of Destruction." Of course, since Bush is probably big on the Apocalypse and all, he'd think it a positive thing...
-
John Lennon's "Gimme Some Truth"
-
Hey, Rod. Love the new avvy.
The Springsteen song was his cover of "War" and the neuman song was "Let's Drop the Big One" or something like that. It was the first time I ever heard it so I'm not 100% on the title.

seriously? that was the Annalisa Bonus Track? I'm impressed. Can't remember the last time that got played on the radio. Dave's not really big on the Plastic Ono Band stuff at all -- I'd love to hear "Power to the People" some morning.

Isn't there a stripper named Eva Destruction? or a drag queen? or both?

Yeah. I'm pretty sure it is. Like I said- I'm not all that into Randy Newman.

Y'know, Spam-A-Lot, the musical based on MP & the Holy Grail, is, like, the hottest ticket on B'way. You can't go wrong with a MP musical starring Tim Curry.
-
I didn't know Tim Curry was in it. Yeah, that's, like, the perfect show!

Curry, David Hyde-Pierce and Hank Azaria. And some bitchin' babe whose name I can't recall. Directed by Mike Nichols, no less. And Eric Idle wrote & produced.
-
Mark McGrath, that dude from Sugar Ray, plays Patsy (King Arthur's coconut-banger, played in the film by Terry Gilliam). That's freakin' hilarious.

That's Alexis Arquette's drag alter ego. Bitch beat me to it. Thus I became Elizabeth New Jersey.

I wonder if there's a "Terror Schiavo"?
I've been SmmothFM-ing with little time to post, but I just heard Candi Staten Island, "Nights on Broadway"

Your post made me realize that "Spamalot" could have been advertised as "Knights (Who Say Nee!) On Broadway"!

Geoff, is there an easy way to increase the font size of the the subject line& maybe even have it bolded? Being a smaller, finer type doesn't lend itself to much utility.

I've been using 'em occasionally, but far from as consistently as you do.
