do you recall Dave Morey one morning talking about this song, saying that although it spoke to a lot of folks about the turmoiil of the day, and represented the frustration of so many folks, that specific phrase just kind of blew it for him?

Yes -- I think we probably discussed it here at length. I've always considered it a conservative song overall -- the line "tax the rich/feed the poor/till there are no rich no more" always struck me as rich-guy sarcasm rather than a left-wing plea.

well, it WAS 1971, so it's sort of on the border between ignorance and enlightenment, as far as straight folks awareness of gay people being everywhere and actually having, y'know, feelings. But as indicated above, I think it fits the overall conservative tone of the lyrics.

I was just about to post something about how we're likely to hear something from John Prine, I SWEAR!

I wanna say Ginger/Marcus have played this before. But we've certainly never heard it from Dave.
-
nice John song... good set, hard to do poorly in the year 1971 -- but I suppose it could be done.
So would some Who's Next? fit in here?

ha, that is hilarious! I must clarify, though: she's actually the record holder for the leggiest woman (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2008/09/16/international/i114733D04.DTL)
she does look like Princess Di, too, I also thought that at first..
-
OMFG! I thought Princess Di too, but was too embarrassed to say so!
