Sorry to fuss, but the original AFAIK was Nina Simone's - and she hated the Animals' take on it.
And sorry to have missed this - I awoke at 11:30 and it was already over.

I never knew that! I'm just a soul whose intentions are good. Wonder how Nina felt about Santa Esmeralda.

yes, good set, but I've heard these songs so many times before that it sorta felt like an oldies station to me. I think 65 is prob the earliest edge of the 10@10 spectrum for most of these stations. Has there ever been one earlier than 65?

When we first started listening to The Drive's version 4 or 5 years ago, '64 and '65 came up regularly, and the '80s not at all. Now '65 is a once-in-a-while rarity and the '80s are regular visits. Ginger ranges from '67 to '98 and Rob pretty much the same.
When Dave began 10@10 in 1982, I'm told he went back as far as early '60s, and they occasionally did "Fifties Friday". There's a famous, typically Morey segue from a '63 set: JFK assassination tape ending with the question "where did the shots come from?" followed by "Up On The Roof" -- LOL!
