An oldies station in Pueblo, CO did an A-to-Z that they claimed would take "weeks" -- on day 10 they were only up to the letter "I" !!! They finally ended after 23 days. Sorry I missed it! And CBS-FM in NY is doing an A-Z as we speak.

just tuned in -- they're in the "A"s, "Another Brick in the Wall".

nicest surprise so far: after Another Day, Another Day in Paradise (aack!), and Another One Bites the Dust, we get Chicago's little-heard "Another rainy day in NYC"!
-
a twin-spin to make Gaz's head explode: BOTH versions of "Another Sat Nite", Cooke & Cat.
-
hrm... "(Hey won't you play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song" omits the parenthetical and makes it into the "A"s.
-
OMG! Carly and the ketchup song!
-
hoo lawd -- PG&E, "Are You Ready?"
-
OMGWTFLOL-of-the-Day: Mark Lindsay, "Arizona"! Gaz, you need to be listening to this thing.
-
a twin-spin to make Gaz's head explode: BOTH versions of "Another Sat Nite", Cooke & Cat.
and now we get both "As Tears Go By"s, Mick 'n' Marianne. This is quite fab.
-
hail "Atlantis"!!! Mah antediluvian bay-bee!
-
I can't stop posting -- "Axel F', another OMGWTF.
-
"Baby Blue" begins 90 minutes of "baby" songs.
-
"Baby Hold On" -- as obscure a GrassRoots tune as I could've imagined. This is truly mind-blowing.
-
There's a hilarious-but-depressing thread on the NYRMB about this CBS-FM A-to-Z, in which people are complaining about "too many album-rock tracks" on the list -- some woman bitched about having to hear "Barbara O'Reilly" by the Who. ROTFL!
-
"Baby, I'm a Wan Shoe". As opposed to a really upbeat sneaker?
-
I was hoping for both "Baby It's You"s and sure enuf: Shirelles and Smith.
-
Incongruous juxtaposition of the Week: "Ballad of John & Yoko" followed by "Ballad of the Green Berets" :o :o :o
-
Remarkable combos indeed.
-
It's lovin-by-proxy-of-Gaz: Cutting Crew, another delete-the-parentheses number, being billed as "Died in Your Arms".
followed, gloriously, by "Different Drum"!
-
Holy Flaming Mother of Oz! Fifth Estate, "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead"! This is truly amazing.
-
YIKES! Disco Dees and his Cast of Ducks!
-
YIKES! Disco Dees and his Cast of Ducks!
and "Disco Duck" is followed (of course) by "Disco Inferno" and "Disco Lady" and "Disco Nights" -- it's an Alicat party!
-
back to A-to-Z: Harlem Nocturne, Harlem Shuffle, and... Harper Valley PTA!
-
good lord, man, have you NEVER been mellow? Just look at ONJ!
"Now I don't mean to make you frown
No, I just want you to go down..."
-
nice back-n-forth mashup of the S&G and Bangles versions of "Hazy Shade..."
followed -- OMGWTFLOL! -- by Lisa Lisa, "Head To Toe"!!!
-
Huey's got "Heart & Soul" -- and one of the best McCartney imitations (songwriting-wise) ever.
-
Heaven-ly stuff: "Heaven Must've Sent You", "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel", and -- OMGWTF -- "Heaven on the 7th Floor" (Paul Nicholas version).
-
as good an example as any, of why this CBS-FM A-to-Z is so wonderful: the nine "Hello" songs (in reverse order, they were posted that way on the "just played" feature) --
BARBARA LEWIS Hello Stranger
ALLAN SHERMAN Hello Mudduh, Hello Fadduh
RICK NELSON Hello Mary Lou
TODD RUNDGREN Hello It's Me
DOORS Hello, I Love You
BEATLES Hello, Goodbye
LOUIS ARMSTRONG Hello, Dolly!
NEIL DIAMOND Hello Again
LIONEL RICHIE Hello
and for you alphabetization junkies: The Beatles' "Help!" came LAST in the "Help" section (presumably because of the exclamation point?)
-
yet another OMGWTF: Rupert Holmes singing about "him... him... HIM!"
-
and for you alphabetization junkies: The Beatles' "Help!" came LAST in the "Help" section (presumably because of the exclamation point?)
Yeah, that's how automated ABCization would sort it.

so, have you been listening to this thing at all? It's pretty damn fabulous.
-
Back to A-toZ in time for maybe the biggest treat of the week: Rick Astley's fabulous '60s Soul hommage, "It Would take a Strong Strong Man".
-
Yeepers! "Jam Up & Jelly Tight", one of the most ridiculous song titles, like, evah.
-
wow, Carly's "Jessie", which I surely haven't heard in decades.
Followed (of course!) by "Jessie's Girl". (for anyone trying to guess the next song, that point was probably moot)
-
OMG -- "Jungle Boogie" into "Jungle Fever" -- ay, que FIEVRE!
-
New to me from JJ on KPOO: Edwin Starr's "There You Go", a #12 R&B single from the summer of '73, which sounds both un-Motownish and un-'73ish.
followed by Denise LaSalle's fab. yoo. luss. "Trapped By a Thing Called Love". "He makes me cry -- lawd! Ah don' wanna cry!" And now Jr Walker's equally great "Gotta Hold on To This Feelin" -- gonna blow blow blow for ya 'cause ah love love love ya!
-
WCBS is down to the Ts come noontime Sunday EDT:

I hadn't expected so much '50s; TOMP was followed by "Teddy Bear" and "Teen Angel." And, I'm guessing, next will be "Teenager in Love." But if we get the 10 Teen Commandments, that'll be my OMGWTFLOL of the week.
ETA: The DJ, Pat St. John (!), audibly laughed during the line "I'll never kiss your lips again / They buried you today."
But no teenager in love, just ELO hanging on the "Telephone Line."
-
Big surprise in the "That"s: COTB, "That's Life." But whoopsie: we get "The Air That I Breathe" and "The Beat Goes On" filed under "The."

It's really been a wonderful week on CBS-FM. BTW, did you see my nasty encounter with Allen Sniffen on the NYRMB thread about this? If not I'll call you and tell you the story off-line. He really is a MAJOR dick.
-
Barry Scott's Lost 45s score tonight with the Pointer Sisters, "How Long (Betcha Got a Chick on the Side)."

I'm reading the threads now, and am reminded of why I decided against following that board regularly. Some people have direly narrow attitudes about what a radio station "should" and "shouldn't" play. They need to lighten up a little - if Whitesnake offends their poppist sensibilities, they should go program their iPods to play what they want. Sigh.
-
"There's a little cafe / Where we can hear music play": Marianne Faithfull's "Summer Nights" is new to me, would have sounded so much better if either Petula Clark or Dusty Springfield had done it.
-
Babs' "Where You Lead"/"Sweet Inspiration" medley was quite a workout!
-
Nice: the Original Caste version of "One Tin Soldier," new to me. A little lacking in the refrain vox, but fine otherwise. Were the Original Caste a real band?

they were indeed -- Canadians. That version got NY airplay in '69 when WMCA gave it a big push, and I was in love with it then (and was crushed that it didn't become a major hit). When the Coven version surfaced in '71 I was thrilled.
