They just played those two rap commercials back-to-back... am I crazy or is it the same guy doing both?
-
actually, Ginger, we CAN name a solo Nick Hayward song (and so can Dave!)
But we get HC100, "Favourite Shirt/Boy Meets Girl", which I always thought sounds a lot like T.Heads' "I Zimbra". BOS1

Sounds like it's 1982, not 1981

I just emailed her! But big kudos for playing Favorite Shirts instead of Love Plus One

indeed, I posted ahead of time, and I thought I remembered her saying "1981" at the end of yesterday's set. No mistaking the Cars, however.

2nd big "feh" for Santana's "Hold On" this week...
-
BOS #2 Porky's clip
"But I've got him now, and I'm not going to let him slip through my fingers"
-
BOS2 Violent Femmes.

Best xylophone or glockenspiel of Set!

2nd xylophone in less than an hour, since Bob played Starbuck.
-
BOS3 Joni, one we pretty much only hear from Ginger, iirc.
-
I know Mike is gonna BOS Joni, but this is maybe a guilty displeasure for me. Not a 'meh' just a 'not my style'. Recognize the craftmanship but...it's just ok

I respect that -- it's not "accessable" Joni or even "poetic" Joni. My BOS is more of a BOSFRA.

I concur on the "I Zimbra" (which has lately been in my top 2 or 3 TH songs) but hadn't thought about it until your post.
I checked and Dave has played "Love Plus One" at least 11 times in my Db era, but never this. So even more kudos for Ginger.
-
anything other than "Steppin' Out" woulda got a BOS from me; I'll be slightly cranky and hold this to a VHM.

Well I know we'll both BOS JJ "Stepping Out". What a flashback/sledgehammer!

so...I guessed wrong.
Maybe you're getting old before your time?

I remember being in a record store on Bleecker St (Bleecker Bob's probably) and arguing about that with the guy behind the counter who said I was crazy -- "it doesn't sound ANYTHING like 'I Zimbra'!!"

no, it's pretty much right on time, recent birthday boy ;)

now THAT'S a cheeze medley! Rick Springfield AND Charlene!
-
WAIT JUST A COTTON-PICKIN' MINUTE!!!!
ABC's "Look Of Love" in most definitely *NOT* cheese, especially when preceeded by "I've Never Been To Me".

Well, I certainly agree about ABC, but Ginger's cheeze medleys often include songs Dave (or Rob) wouldn't think twice about.

I think the near misses are rarer than the actuall jinxes.

BOS Ultravox. Sure wish someone would dig up Midge Ure's minor solo hit "Dear God" from circa 1989 (and no, it's nothing like the XTC song)
ETA: confirming my vague memory, Dave played this once, back in Oct 2002.

I'm quite partial to his "If I Was", a bee-yoo-tee-ful ballad from '85 or so that should've been a big hit but died over here despite being a UK #1.
BOS x+1 Broooce.

"maybe everything that dies someday comes back" -- Ginger's got (Good) Friday on her mind.
-
another BOS to "CNN2" when they were good. Who'd'a guessed they'd become the home of Glenn Beck and Nancy Grace (*shudder*)

'the stain on my notebook' (and this song generally after years of exposure) does nothing for me.

I remember being vaguely disappointed by this LP, after the 1-2 punch of Argybargy and East Side Story. And A&M really gave it a big push, but this song still wasn't the Top 40 hit they were expecting it to be.

I don't mind the song--I just think it could be about 2 minutes shorter. They milk every last drop out of the melody, then they play three more choruses.

I thought it was great once upon a time, but now to me it's kind of like Brown-Eyed Girl.
