Title: KBCO, 3/14/08: 1989
Post by: RGMike on March 14, 2008, 09:02:36 AM
instant BOS Tanita Tikaram, "Twist in my Sobriety", one of the *great* songs of that year.

But I've yet to hear the Liza Minelli cover, produced by Neil Tennant.

Ditto (though I missed it! Argh), and BOS2 to The The, "The Beaten Generation."

Holy crap! The The, "The Beaten Generation" BOS2.  This is already better than any Dave '89 set in memory.

Put on your face!  BOS3 to the Cure, a very depressing song from a very depressing album.

"Disintegration is the Best. Album. Ever!" -- Stan Marsh.

Wasn't that Kyle who said that?

PS: The Liza version of TIMS used to get played at the Duplex on the jukebox once in a while.

I asked Ginger about SP in a recent chat.  She is not a fan & didn't recognize that quote when I said it to her.  Makes me wonder about what kind of local backlash Trey & Matt get.

mighta been -- considering I've seen that ep dozens of times, you'd think I'd be sure. "Bahboora, Bahboora..."

BOS4 Indigos, just 'cause it's not the obvious choice.  I just heard a clip of Liza's "TIMS" on Amazon -- sounds pretty horrendous.

BOS & possible BOW, Bob Mould - "See A Little Light"

ETA: these lyrics *exactly* fit my mood the past couple weeks:

As the years go by, they take their toll on you
Think of all the things we wanted to do
And all the words we said yesterday
That's a long time ago

But I think/hope that in the last 24 hrs I've snapped out of it.  (and without Cher slapping me in the face!)

Ginger I kiss you!  MWAH!  J'adore "See a Little Light" (and I presume it's an across-the-board bustout).  She'll hit the "120 Minutes" trifecta for me if she closes with the Hoodoo Gurus.

Agree w/ Best of set. Best of week, possibly--but there were a couple of contenders in the Tony Salvador set DM did a few days ago.

Glad to hear you've turned the corner. I suspect I have as well. More on that later.

It's the second appearance by a member of the Minneapolis indie mafia this set--BOS2 'Mats, Achin' to Be.

And now a great 'Mats tune - "Achin' To Be".  I for one certainly think your verdict will stand up.

Most Excellent BoDeans to wrap up.

the only thing that would've been better (for me) is "My Brave Face" or "Walk the Dinosaur".

and here are the BoDeans, living up to my recent "BoDeans : late '80s :: Cars : late '70s" analogy.

And in any late 80s set, that is an accomplishment indeed. Well done, Ginger. Above and beyond!

There's really a strong feeling of change in the air.  Many people close to me are undergoing significant life alterations at the moment: moving, changing jobs, ending relationships, having kids, and/or trying to convince themselves to take one of those leaps.

Well I'm down for two of those:  selling old/buying new homes, and changing jobs.  Can't really survive any longer on an equity only compensation pkg from my startup, although we can (just barely) still do the sell/buy home scenario on just Christina's salary.  But it's really scary.  At least until I get a salary again.  So in the last 48 hrs or so I've realigned my thinking to getting a new job no matter what, and now I feel better for it (as does my wife).
