Title: KBCO, 2/26/08: 1991
Post by: RGMike on February 26, 2008, 09:03:00 AM
quite a letdown after the mother of all 1970 sets just now (not to mention Ginger's fab '73 excursion yesterday).  Chris Whitley to start. hate to speak ill of the dead, but this is rather snoozy.

the BoDeans, as inevitable in the late '80s/early '90s as the Cars are in late '70s/early '80s.

Marc Cohn's got 29 ways to go walking in memphis with his true companion -- a silver thunderbird would be faster, no?

this Danny Gatton instrumental, "Funky Mama", is new to me. I'd've guessed Brian Setzer if you'd pressed me.

Yeesh. This has been an uncharacteristically substandard set from Ginger--absolutely nothing is doing it for me. I guess we all have off days...

agreed, tho' early '90s is a substandard *era*, IMHO. At least we didn't hear "Rico Suave"...

And sadly, Ginger ignores New Jack as egregiously as Dave does.  Apart from that and the Madchester scene, there wasn't much to get excited about from '89 through '91. (Later if, like me, you didn't get grunge.)

Dave prefers "Nuevo Joaquin" to "New Jack" ;)
