VHM American Graffitti -- the first time I'd ever heard the word "bitchin'".

Had I been quicker on the draw, it would have been.  What a simply amazing, amazing song.

My uncle Mike bought me the Beatles' just-mentioned "Blue Album" (1967-1970) for my 5th birthday, at the end of '77.  I've been grateful ever since for his prescience.

and just as amazing is that it got played on "album rock" stations alongside Led Zep and Pink Floyd.

Haha!  Perfect!

Meanwhile, BOS2 to "Time in a Bottle."  I'm not sure I was aware Jim Croce was dead when I first heard his hits in the mid-late '70s.

BOS3 to "Grey Seal," so evocative of my acclimation to SF in the fall of '96.  Who cares if the lyrics are nonsense, that never stopped Taupin before!

BOS3 EJ, "Grey Seal" -- once a KFOG playlist staple on the order of "Rocket Man". "Killer Queen" and "Sweet Emotion". These days, rarely heard.

BOS3 to "Grey Seal," so evocative of my acclimation to SF in the fall of '96.  Who cares if the lyrics are nonsense, that never stopped Taupin before!

"Why's it never light on my lawn
Why does it rain and never say good-day to the new-born
On the big screen they showed us a sun
But not as bright in life as the real one
It's never quite the same as the real one

And tell me grey seal
How does it feel
To be so wise
To see through eyes
That only see what's real
Tell me grey seal

I never learned why meteors were formed
I only farmed in schools that were so worn and torn
If anyone can cry then so can I
I read books and draw life from the eye
All my life is drawings from the eye

Your mission bells were wrought by ancient men
The roots were formed by twisted roots
Your roots were twisted then
I was re-born before all life could die
The Phoenix bird will leave this world to fly
If the Phoenix bird can fly then so can I"

It always struck me as some sort of hallucinatory sci-fi dream.
