Ah declare! Judge kicks off with Gladys, "Daddy Could Swear".
-
Judge is continuing his series of tributes to classic black radio stations -- later we're getting a bit of NYC's brilliant Frankie Crocker. Can't wait.
-
First Choice! "Smarty Pants", lookin' for ro-mants.
-
Judge has a serious Gladys/Pips jones today: "On & On", "Imagination", and now "All I Need is Time".
-
Noo Yawk -- jus' like Stevie pitcha'd it!

and a fabulous segue from "Livin For The City" to the Spinners' "Ghetto Child".
-
Got back from lunch just in time to hear the songs Mike just mentioned, as well as his tribute to Frankie Crocker on WBLS.
And now the Pointer Sisters are pitchin' yo' Wang Dang Doodle all night long. Gawd, haven't heard this since the mid-70s, safe to say. This sucka gets down--wonder who the guitar player is?
ETA: Per AMG, only two guitar players on that album: Willie Fulton, who was also a member of Tower of Power, and John Rewind (?!) who was in the Hoodoo Rhythm Devils, a Bay area band that never got much beyond the bar scene.

Frankie was a GOD. That short clip didn't really do him justice. He did amaizing things both behind the mic and behind the scenes. And I can't remember the last time I heard this Pointers jam either -- it's sssmokin! Dave should give it a spin; instant BOS contender.
-
Rev Al is Livin' for You! Judge is having a slammin' afternoon.
-
wow, that Mel & Tim tune was new to me.
and now more Frankie!
-
"The fabulous... the insurmountable (!?!)... the incomparable... the mighty mighty Dells!"
-
The O'Jays and their slavery epic, "Ship Ahoy" -- always wondered if this was meant as a rejoinder to Randy Newman's "Sail Away".
-
baddest bitches in the bed! I'm yo' pusher man! Greg goes all Superfly on yo' ass on his Sat nite CGSS. Where'd I park mah pimpmobile?
-
CGSS digs out Bobby W's fab cover of "Calif Dreamin'". Somebody he'p me now!
-
Greg plays Eugene Wilde, "Gotta get You Home Tonight", one of my fave late-'80s soulful seduction songs. Always thought it sounded like one Mr Wilde grabbed after Freddie Jackson turned it down.
-
Greg ends my afternoon with 2 weather-related gems: post-Diana Supes with "Automatically Sunshine" and Oran "Juice" Jones, "The Rain" -- $3700 Lynx coat and everything. "I gave you things you couldn't even pronounce!"
-
TANC, kinda: We didn't get to hear Bauhaus' "Bela Lugosi's Dead" today -- but here they are, on CG's retro-countdown show, doing a rather faithful cover of "Ziggy Stardust" from 1982! New to me.

and now a great Spandau Ballet song I haven't heard in ages: "Lifeline". This chart has some real interesting stuff on it:

WLNG has been sprinkling H'ween-themed songs throughout the day: Here's a bit of a stretch: Diana Ross' "Eaten Alive".
-
sampling CBS-FM for the first time in weeks. Bob Shannon says rats -- as pets! -- are back in vogue thanks to Ratatouille. And then he plays (what else?) "Ben".
-
switched to CG in time to hear Sweeney play a super-long 12" mix of Prince's "Alphabet Street". Now go and tell yo' mama 'bout DAT!
-
getting an extra hour of Sweeny ( the Brits turned the clocks back last week) and he's an absolute FONT. A Billy J Kramer song ("I'll Keep You satisfied") that's new to me. And I'd never noticed this (not even when Dave played it recently) but he correctly points out that on Chris Montez's "Let's Dance", he actually sings "let's dan" -- Every. Single. Time.
and --OMG! -- Stevie, "Misstra Know-it-All"!
-
OMGWTFLOL! CGSS plays Tony Camilla's Bazuka, "Dy-no-MITE", their 1975 tribute to the Jimmie "JJ" Walker catchphrase. Haven't heard this in eons.
-
papa was a rollling stone.
I had no idea about the Brit time change.

Tonight on Barry Scott's Lost 45s, one of my all-timers, "I'd Wait a Million Years." Someday I'm gonna compile a full mix of morse-code riffs.

Followed a while later by another, Smokey & the Miracles' "Baby, Baby Don't Cry."

A CD of Smokey's lesser/forgotten singles would put the average artist's "Best of" collection to shame:
(Come 'Round Here) I'm the One You Need (#17 Pop)
The Love I Saw in You Was Just a Mirage (#20)
More Love (#23)
YesterLove (#31)
Special Occasion (#26)
I Don't Blame You At All (#18 )
I'll Try Something New (#39)
Amazing.
