Odds are Ginger will do better in '80 than Bob did in '81.

VHM to Ruth Gordon in Every Which Way But Loose.  (Or was that Any Which Way You Can?)  I remember enjoying both back in the day, haven't seen either in 25 years.

Recognized Ruth Gordon's voice, but had no idea what movie that was. So thanks!

I'm thinking 'bout eternity, some kind of BOS got a hold on me.

Anyone else actually know who Bruce Cockburn was back then?  I think this is just sublime.

LOL! VHM "Whip it"

Just saw your quote -- big Upton Sinclair fan?  You know that PT Anderson of Boogie Nights fame has made a film loosely based on Sinclair's Oil, called There Will Be Blood -- lots of buzz surrounding it.

this actually made the Top 40, didn't it? I seem to remember hearing it on AT40.

BOS2 Pretenders, "Private Life". Your sex-life complications are not my fascinations!

Saw the preview for that on Friday, Daniel Day Lewis is the bad guy & it took me almost the entire trailer to convince myself it was him.  Really transformed since the last time I saw him in Gangs of New York.  The son from Little Miss Sunshine is the other featured actor.

I've never heard the Pretenders' "Private Life" before, so BOS for novelty alone.  Good track, too.

Very good memory!  It was Cockburn's sole Top 40 charter, making it to #21 in late spring.

On the liner notes it reads:  "This LP is longer than the usual LP sold these days, so to enjoy it to the fullest PLAY IT LOUD!"

Emphatic second to this. It took me a few months to pick up this album after it came out, then it didn't leave my turntable for the next six months. And Private Life, as Ginger so rightly assessed, is hypnotic. Was a real highlight of their live show, too--extremely powerful.

Wow, here's a deep album cut I'd wager hasn't seen the light of day on the local 10@10: Roxy, Over You.

Is that sarcasm? 'cause Dave's played this more than a few times.

But here's an actual bustout, methinks: Pat Metheny.

Well you can't argue about that being true for this Pat Metheny cut.

ETA: while I agree that Dave must have played "Over You", it isn't in the Db, so he hasn't for a long while at least.

Shockingly, Roxy's nearly sole Hot 100 hit, charting at #80.  (I think "Love Is the Drug" charted as well, will check.)

Really? No sarcasm meant, but I have no recollection of it.

ETA: It hasn't hit the Shraytabase yet, either, so that'll give you some idea of how long it's likely been since he last played it.

You are correct: #30.  And "Dance Away" made it to #44.  But that was it.

And Dance Away didn't quite hit the top 40, but didn't miss by much, hit #44.

ETA: Oops, I see Gaz arrived at that conclusion himself while I was typing.

Jeez, this cover of Gimme Some Lovin' is over-produced, with a capital O. You'd never know that was Belushi singing.

Indeed -- I don't have the aversion to the whole Blues Bros thing that some folks have, and the movie is fun if overblown. But that version of GSL is awful -- def one of the least necessary covers in history.
