Here's hoping Marcus can avoid the usual Moreytrinas.

er... still hoping. SRV followed by REM.

Nice to do the Pop Song "Hi. Hi, Hi" dance, which is very similar to doing the "Car Wash."

Finally a worthy BOS -- Roy Orbison, "Mystery Girl". What a wonderful album this was, all the way thru.
-
Still firmly in DM territory, but at least it's something worthy of a BOS vote: Roy Orbison, Myftery Girl.
-
what's Marcus' "Alibi" for being relatively pedestrian in a year that Ginger usually shines? Oh well, maybe he'll heat up in the 2nd half...

SRV, REM & Clapton all have songs that are katrina's in other years, but the shraytabase scorecard for the first half of Marcus' set (number of times Dave has played the song) will surprise you.
Texas - 2
SRV - 0
REM - 1
Orbison - 4
Clapton - 2
Of course this is strictly a quantity, not quality, evaluation. I still like the Orbison best out of these 5, no question.
-
Don't want no Crapton phone-ins, either. WOS.

wow, that IS surprising -- I'd've guessed the SRV & REM to have been bigger Morey faves.

VHM live Neil.

VHM live Neil.
I think that might be the topper for this set. Unless Marcus whips out some Stone Roses.
ETA: Just looked at the Just Played list, a couple songs before the set KBCO played Us3 "Cantaloop". Now that's one I'd give a BOS to if anyone ever played it in the appropriate year without hesitation.
-
Least necessary: Michael Penn... talk about somebody I really liked at the time who bores me silly now.

Or Was/Not Was -- What Up Dog? was far and away my fave LP of 1989, followed by De la Soul, Neneh Cherry and ubertrinas FYC. Of that quartet we have only heard FYC in ANY 10@10 from '89.

at least we can be pretty sure that Marcus wont inflict Warrant (YIKES!!!) on us!

WTF!? Dr. John is making whoopee.

Ditto -- I think Ginger has played it once in '92/'93. Another great record KFOG completely ignored when it was new.
Ginger's played this Dr John "Makin Whoopie" too.

VHM Major League. A movie I went into with no expectations (the trailers had made it look like Police Academy-plays-baseball) and was pleasantly surprised, starting with the opening credits, scored to Randy Newman's "Burn On Big River" Cleveland, city of light! City of magic!

And as Marcus jsut mentioned, there was also a little sndtk LP by Prince...
"V-V-V-Vicki Vale! Vickie Vale!"

What's the deal with the Ginger/Marcus duo? He fills in for her?

I liked that movie more than most as well. The big, earnest actor who played the catcher has a twin brother that I knew when I was at UCSB.
I saw Randy Newman open for James Taylor once, outdoor venue, in the mid 80's, and when he played "Burn On Big River" he told the audience that they spared no expense on special effects, and then he got a red spotlight on the backdrop as he led into:
There's a red moon rising
On the Cuyahoga River
Rolling into Cleveland to the lake
This was the same summer as the big Jacksons reunion, and he said something to the effect of "eat shit Jacksons!"

Yup--the good Doctor did a whole album of big-band standards in '89--some songs were kinda schmaltzy, but some of it was pretty good.

Same deal as Annalisa & Dave. KBCOs' daytime lineup is Bret - Ginger - Marcus, so if Bret or Ginger is out the others move up a slot.

WOS to this Dr. John/RLJ travesty. Oh my god this is what hell sounds like to me.
