Title: Geoff will be proud to know...
Post by: princessofcairo on March 10, 2005, 09:22:09 PM
so i just came home, and as any good dyke will do after a night of bowling and beer, i popped in a melissa etheridge album. i picked yes i am (which means i'm admitting to owning more than one m.e. album). and the first song is "i'm the only one." the bass line sounds great! and i think, "hmmm...sounds like pino to me." i check the liner notes, and, sure enough, it's mr. palladino.

i feel like i've arrived. i can "hear!"

it's no mistake he appears on all the best songs/hits on the album. something about his sound...

I had a very similar epiphany with Greg Leisz and slide guitar a couple years ago.  Grand, ain't it?

Speaking of Carol Kaye and bass lines, you should really check out Matthew Sweet's underappreciated 1999 album In Reverse.  She plays on four of the songs and it's rather easy to pick out which ones.  The whole album is phenomenal -- think Richard Carpenter meets the Beatles' Revolver album.  It's a Star Wars pillowcase -- a classic that everyone slept on.

Pino was with the Who recently when they played Shoreline, no?
I have a 2-disc copy of the show if you want a copy. It was a wonderful show.
