Judge gets all sexy-like, with Rick James' "Make Love To Me". Oh baby!
-
new to me: The Gap Band doing their best EWF imitation.
-
ooo! a rarely-heard Prince track, "Private Joy".
Has anyone heard his new CD? got a nice review in EW; I've only heard "Guitar" so far, which CG is playing.
-
WLNG Nugget o' the Day: Vikki Carr, "It Must Be Him", a fave from when I was 12. Don't be a chump, Vikki!
-
it's funny, but even with the gynormous (sorry) playlist, repeats happen. Today, around 1PM, I heard "Tramp" by Carla and Otis, then I heard it again, a few hours later!

There's an explanation for that: KPIG has segments each hour for commercial insertions at the various "affiliates" (the SF version might get a commercial for Memphis Minnie's BBQ, while KZAP might not have any time sold for that hour). Sometimes they play PSAs, sometimes they play music, and the music they choose has to be 2-1/2 minute or 3 minute songs. "Tramp" is one of those songs, so it actually comes up quite often.

just starting now on KPIG

a CG treat: Pilot's "January", their other UK hit (a #1, in fact), which did nothing over here.
-
WLNG Nugget: ABBA's delightful "Honey Honey" -- one that even Dave never plays.
-
It may be 7/25/07 in the real world, but on WLNG it's the 3rd of June, another sleepy dusty Delta day.
-

and an hour after"Honey, Honey", we get "Sugar, Sugar". Fountains of Wayne should write a song called "Splenda, Splenda".
-
wow -- Scott MacKenzie's "Like An Old-Time Movie", I assume this was the follow-up to "San Francisco". Amazingly, I'd never heard this before.
follwed by Stevie Wonder's "Send One Your Love" -- haven't heard this in a very long time. Has anyone ever actually seen The Secret Life of Plants?
-
OMGWTFLOL of the day: Carly Simon's "Attitude Dancing".

Just today I stumbled onto a link, sending me to Scott McKenzie's page, where he has an audio file of him doing one of the last song's John Philips ever wrote, "We've Been Asking Questions." Turning out to be a very timely song, and is the official song of this weekends big 40th anniversary of Monterey Pop Festival!

Bob Shannon on CBS-FM, after playing "Dreamweaver":
"Personally, my dream Weaver is Sigourney."

Just noticed that last week's thread under this topic is locked and I was wondering why (not that I want to post anything there). Or did someone accidentally click something by mistake?

I think I did indeed "click something by mistake" when I tried to post something about Little Steven's show -- I can't figure out how to unlock it. And since it was Sunday night, I figured it didn't much matter.

well, dang me! it's "Dang Me". Mr Miller was some kinda genius. His pappy was a pistol -- he's a son of a gun!
-
CGSS in full effect. Mr Wonder-ful takes us to Another Star.
-
Greg just announced that starting next week, CGSS is expanding -- 7-midnight, which means 11-4 here! Dunno what that means for Sweeney's show. Last week Dean made some cryptic remarks about upcoming changes; wonder what else is in store.

No complaints here.

When (the real) Smokey Sings: "If You Can Want".

Sweeney's moving to Sat afternoons, noon-2pm (that's 4-6am here, so... buh-bye Mr Sweeney, been nice listening to ya!)

JJ on KPOO never fails to amaze, but this trifecta just blew my mind (the first 2 were new to me):
Mavis Staples' version of "A House Is Not A Home"
Etta James' "All the Way Down" (from '73, apparently)
Esther Phillips' "Home Is Where the Hatred Is"
Hoo Lawd!
