I'm sure I'm about to jinx it, but the KPOO stream hasn't been so clean and unbuffered in ages. An hour of dirty blues (songs about "meat", har har) and now (I assume) here come da Judge.
-
Judge begins with Isaac Hayes recorded live in Tahoe! Shut yo' mouth!
-
ooo! the orig version of "Gonna take a Miracle".
-
Judge is in a rare '60s groove. Darrell Banks' fab "Open the Door (to Your Heart)".
-
Deep Tracks is also belated tracks today, the music logs are running about three songs ahead of the stream, which I mention just in case anyone wants to hear Joni's "Coyote" in a few minutes.
-
OMFG! Bobby W with the Valentinos, the orig early-'60s version of "Lookin' For a Love".
-
Hitch-hike, chill'un'! Marvin sticks out his thumb.
-
Leon Haywood sez it GOTS to be mellow! This has been a dee-liteful afternoon so far.
-
Diana Mary & Flo (or was it Cindy at that point?) keep fallin' in & out of love.
-
Holy crap! Judge (or whoever -- haven't heard a human voice all afternoon) is playing Dolemite! He bad as he wanna be!

working late, but now I get to gear up for the Robert Palmer "Sneaking Sally " trilogy. YAY!
-
CG's Dean plays Richard Harris, pressed by love's hot fevered iron, like a stripe-ed pair of pants.
-
CG plays Peter Skellern (who?), "You're a Lady", a top 5 UK hit from '72 later covered in the US (unsuccessfully) by Tony Orlando.
-
Damn! Feargal Sharkey's great, overlooked "A Good Heart" from '86 or thereabouts. A Maria McKee composition, iirc.
-
wow, Alphaville's "Big in Japan", which I haven't heard in a dog's age.
-
Speaking of songs not heard in decades:
In the past 40 minutes or so, KPIG has played Joy of Cooking's Brownsville Mockingbird, and just now their "420 Moment" was Jesse Winchester's Twigs and Seeds. I'm sure I hadn't heard either in a good 25 years, if not more (and probably lots more in the case of the JofC, as that song was a hit circa '71 or so).

I heard them play the JofC tune recently; must be knocking around their studio (on vinyl, no doubt!). But the Winchester -- jeez, I don't think I've ever heard that on the radio, even back in the day (and his early LPs got a LOT of NY airplay -- talk about an artist that time forgot).
-
per the NY Radio Board, CBS-FM's Bob Shannon just did this bit:
"And now... reliving a traumatic moment from my childhood when my mother told me she didn't want any grandchildren..."
and he immediately played "Mama Told Me Not To Come".
ROTFL!
-
OMFG! Bustout of the Week -- CGSS plays Salt'n'Pepa, "Lets talk About Sex"! I'm in awe.

But Greg just did, girlz!

Sweeney's CG Rock Show follows up the "30th anniv of Punk in the UK" show with a look at Punk in the US circa '77. Starting with the Ramones, natch.
-
That part must be over, 'cuz now he's back to playing Bryan Adams. Wish I could understand what Sweeney sees in him.

You didn't miss much; it was less than an hour and other than the joy of hearing the NY dolls, nothing Earth-shattering.

JJ on KPOO plays Faith Hope & Charity's fab "To Each His Own", which I haven't heard in 30 years -- this was a #1 R&B single in 1975, but inexplicably failed to hit the Pop Top 40.
