Title: The Drive, 1/30/07: 1973
Post by: RGMike on January 30, 2007, 08:00:45 AM
One of my favorite years.

not exactly what I'd call a TOTHC: S&C sing about that (literally) blessed bird in "Hummingbird".  Don't fly 'way, fly 'way.

VHM Mr. Dillon, er, Dylan, "Knockin' on Heaven's Door".  Another famously-snubbed-by-Oscar movie song.

A pretty shameless knockoff of "Your Mama Don't Dance", tho'. I didn't pick up on the shout-out to Timothy B Schmidt until years later.

"Little Timmy Schmidt has got his old man's van"

Nope, not Krokus. It was Mott the Hoople, on All the Young Dudes.

Speaking of whom, Ian Hunter is on a double bill with the Zombies at the Fillmo', mid-March. No telling how he's aged, but I aim to find out.

Wow, I used to see him on the Upper West Side in NYC occasionally in the early '80s -- and he looked old to me then!

I always thought it hilarious that he probably made more $$$ from Barry Manilow's cover of "Ships" than from his own LPs.
