"they call me Coffee Daddy
'cause I percolate so fine..."
KPOO's dirty blues heatin' things up.
-
in office, first checked out the SOMA FM xmas music streams, now heading over to KHUM to see if it's too late for Motown Monday!
-

KPOO's dirty blues heatin' things up.
Marilyn's diggin' deep in her nasty-ass blues collection today. I never cease to be amazed at all the euphemisms they came up with for naughty bits and doin' the nasty.

all this lemon-squeezin' is making me thirsty.
But that "if you can't get me a woman, then bring me a sissy-man" song is quite mind-blowing.
-
And she'll be back next week with dirty Xmas Blues!
-
Judge plays James Brown, going hip-hop with Full Force. "Get offa my tip/ Ain't takin' no lip!"
-
Yowsah! Prince's other Batman hit, "Partyman" -- sounding quite good to me today.

tanc: just picked up the soundtrack on vinyl last week. i thought the same thing about "partyman." i'd completely forgotten about the song.

not to mention "Arms of Orion" !
oo! now Judge is playing "Ghetto Heaven".
-
Lady T! "Ooo la la la"!
-
OMFG! New Edition, "A Little Bit of Love".
-
LOL! Eddie Murphy/Rick James, "Party All the Time".
followed by more Jamesian production: "Wild & Crazy Love" (MJ Girls) and the man himself with "Sweet and Sexy Thing".
-
Freddie Jackson, "Jam Tonight". But never jam today...
-
"Ah bought me a love gun
Jus' the other day..."
Ike & Tina on KPOO. Preceded by Barbara Acklin's fab-yoo-luss "Love Makes a Woman."
ETA: and now it's Otis -- he's a "Love Man"!
-
a new one on me: Marva Whitney, "Unwind Yo'self" -- not surprised to discover it's a James Brown production.
-
VIP on Tuesday with the Tymes
"you little trustmaker
you're no heartbreaker
yessir!"
-
OMGWTF! Diana Ross's "Gettin Ready For Love", which I haven't heard since it was a hit, probably.
-
ooo! Marvin's version of "The Christmas Song". Not the greatest recording, sound-wise, but still nice.
-
Early Stevie! "Nothin's Too Good For My Baby".
-
On somafm.com's "Xmas in Frisco", an hilariously tasteless and VERY un-PC song called "the 12 Days of Kwanzaa". Priceless.
-
OMGWTFLOL!!! Tony Orlando & Dawn covering Cliff Richard's "Mistletoe & Wine".
-
JCM's fab "I Saw Mommy Kissing SC", far and away the best track on Very Special Xmas, IMHO -- certainly the one that comes closest to the orig concept of the LP, contemporary artists doing trad holiday tunes in the style of their own hits; not everybody actually followed those directions.
-
OMGWTFLOL2! something from then infamous Star Wars Xmas LP. "R2D2 We Wish you Merry Xmas".
"and if the snow gets deep
just give a little peep"
-
%$uck yeah! Jingle Hells Bells.
Awesome.
These are few of my favorite things!
-
a mashup of Imagine and what sounds like Michael Jackson's Santa Claus is Comin' to Town.

beat me by seconds! This is amazing, actually. It's credited to DJ BC, and called (not surprisingly) "Imagine Santa".
The song before it, "Born-Again Pagan", about how Dec 25th is the "birthday" of other gods besides JC, was also pretty great.
-
"snowball fightin'/
it's so excitin', baby"
yay Joey!
-
Eazy-e - Merry Muthaphuckin' X-mas

Eazy-e - Merry Muthaphuckin' X-mas
This X-rated rap Xmas stuff is stultifyingly juvenile, in a way the South Park, for example, is not. We've heard several so far today. Everybody's always getting their dick sucked under the Xmas tree. Sheesh.
-
this Spanish thing ("Riu Chiu") by the Monkees is lovely -- I'd long forgotten it, but they sang it on an Xmas ep of their sitcom that was rerun in the "i" channel recently.
-
an exceptionally clean-sounding copy of Augie Rios' "Mamacita (Donde Esta Santa Claus?)", which KFRC used to play to death every year, from a copy that sounded like it'd been to hell & back.

M Smith (Aka The M) - X - Maz - N - The - Hood
tuning out in protest. I'll hear the N-word enough when I go back to work, or when some white pseudo-hip DJ plays something at Amoeba!
-
A nice relief from the above; Sammy Davis Jr. doing Mel Torme's signature The Christmas Song.
-
Eazy-e - Merry Muthaphuckin' X-mas
I was phreakin amazed. A late 20-something sits near me and I called her over to listen.

KCRW (Santa Monica) is playing a recording of Cat Stevens' first US performance in 30 years on Morning Becomes Eclectic.

-
CG-ing today -- it's Dean's annual Xmas Jukebox with special guest, Santa himself, taking phone calls from adorable British tykes. One little 3-year-old girl was named...
Paris.
Horrors!

They announced that this will be archived at the KCRW site, so if you missed it, you haven't missed it completely.
Some good interview segments--including one in which Yusuf's cell phone goes off during a question--hilarious!!

and his ringtone is "Death to the Infidels"
Just switched over to WLNG in time for Aretha's sublime "Winter Wonderland"
"...as we groo-oo-oo-oove by the fire!"
Followed by "Palisades Park" (!) and Mr Manilow, playin' hide-and-seek with hearts and always hurtin'.
-
and now, OMFG, Dionne W.'s "This Girl's in Love With You", her distaff version of the Herb Alpert classic.
-
"too bad
it was him that you trusted
too bad
but you can't be disgusted"
Smooth Smokey on 'LNG.
-
Sheena Easton (the Petula Clark of the '80s) takes the "Morning Train" on 'LNG!
-
WLNG is doing a 4-hour countdown of the "Top 60 Xmas Hits of All Time". Darlene Love's Home Alone 2 track, "All Alone on Xmas" -- one of the great latter-day Xmas records.
-
Buck Owens, "Santa Looked a Lot Like Daddy", def in my all-time Xmas Top Ten.
-
KRSH Soul Patrol is doing an hour of R&B Xmas. Great stuff.
"Mambo Santa Mambo" and "Back Door Santa"!
sadly, I missed the Staples' "Who Took The Merry..."
-
the superb Ms. Darlene Love, "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)", Greatest. Christmas. Record. EVAH!
My season is complete...
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!![/size]
