Judge scores again: Dr Buzzard's Orig Savannah Band, "I'll Play the Fool".
-
Oh my! "To Each His Own", a Van McCoy comp done by Faith Hope & Charity, one of the Three Degrees clones of the mid-'70s. (Ecstasy Passion & Pain was another).
followed by Silver Convention, "Get Up & Boogie" That's RIGHT!
It's Disco Central today.
-
Sly gets high (on you).

Holy hell, that Disco Museum site is a treat! Bookmarked for my continuing-education.

VIP is doing an hour of R&B covers of rock hits -- Wilson Pickett just did a killer "Born to be Wild", now the Isleys "Love The One You're With". catch it before it's over at 2.
-
OK, it's not ALL covers, it's also "soulful rock" : Jimi's "Fire" followed by PG&E, "Are You Ready?" and the Chambers Bros. Great stuff in any case.
-
OMFG! Mink DeVille, "Spanish Stroll". Lou Reed goes to Spanish Harlem. Fab. Yoo. Luss.
-
butwegonnatakethebeginningofthissong and do it... easy.
Tina's pumpin 'tane, Ike's doin' 'caine.
ETA: followed by pre-CCR Golliwogs which I don't think I've ever heard before. And now the late great Mr Lee & Love!
-
ReeRee takes a load off her fanny!
-
That was a truly exhilirating hour of music.
Interestingly, the following hour started with the opposite number: a white guy going black -- Bowie, "Young Americans". Is there a woman I can sock on the jaw?
-
left-field VIP surprise: Dawn, "Candida" as loving an homage to the Brill Building as I've ever heard.
-
CDX-ing today. early highlight: Ms Benatar, "Hell is for -- Hell! -- hell is for Children"
-
OMGWTFLOL! Jerry Reed, "Amos Moses"!! Make it count, son!
"named him after a man of the cloth..."
I love the fact that he tries to rhyme "groceries" with "Moses".
"you can sho' get lost in the Louisiana bayou!"
-
one for mshray: Mason Proffit, "Voice of Change".
-
Percy gets Trampled Under Foot. I always thought this was the closest LZ ever came to disco.
-
oo! the 'oo, with the little-heard "Let's See Action". For years I thought they were saying "Pepsi action! Pepsi people!"
-
I don't know much
but I love "Soul Deep" so much
Mr Chilton rools.
-
wow, the full version of "Give Peace a Chance".
"This -ism, that -ism, -ism, -ism, -ism!"
-
one for mshray: Mason Proffit, "Voice of Change".
That's cool!
-
lost 'CDX, switched to WLNG: The Royal Guardsmen, "Baby Let's Wait", very Bobby Vee-like (think "Come Back When You Grow Up"). Haven't heard this in years.
-
CG-ing today, and as luck would have it Greg is subbing for Dean. Gary Byrd's fabulous "The Crown"!
-
wow, "Way of Life" a lost Brit '60s nugget by Family Dogg. Albert Hammond was a member of the band. Didya know he also co-wrote "Gimme Dat Ding"? Live'n'learn!
-
CG's Greg plays my request for "Where Do You Go To My Lovely", and follows with "Purple Rain" and "Pull Up To the Bumper".
-
CGSS! Levi's goin' Loco, down in Acca-poco. Yeah, I know, it's one of the Worst. Rhymes. Ever.
-
You're mah Honeybee!
Come on and sting me!
Ms Gaynor gets down.
-
Soul Patrol: I don't think I will ever tire of "I'll Take You There."
He'p me, y'all!
-
wow, Al Green doing "Unchained Melody"!
I just ordered 2 volumes of Greatest Hits by the Rev. Green, but this ain't on either one.
-

Damn, I was required at the last minute to have lunch with the Iguana, my cow orker & my co-worker, and I was so hoping to be at my desk this noon.
-
back to CGSS: J-5, "Skywriter", one of their rarely-heard lesser hits. Love that phasing!
-
JB on the Goodfoot! another one for the self-referential list: "dancin' to the music of the James Brown Band".
-
Holy Sh!t: CG just played some metalhead metal anthem, "I'm gonna LOVE ya ALL NIGHT LONG!!!" I assumed it was Spinal Tap but turns out it was Rainbow. They were serious?! :o

Ah, thanks. I've tuned in, just in time for the (1971?) slowed-tempo "Where Did Our Love Go." Did it always have that high-pitched squeal in the background? Sounded especially distracting, like a misguided remix.
And now ... "Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart." Appropriate in light of the disco string washes, I guess.

Rhino's Trammps best-of is the best 8 dollars I ever spent.
Wow, a cover of "Suavecito"! Beach Music RULES!
-
"Show me the backstreets!"
-
Solomon Burke, "Got To Get You Off My Mind"... the orig, iirc -- I know the Southside Johnny cover from the '70s.
Good lord, who's this covering Englebert's "After The Lovin'"? And why?
-
playing the Dead's version of "Good Lovin'" (Mike need not comment!) with Lowell George on lead vocals, and what sounds like Sneaky Pete on pedal steel (uncredited). No Garcia at all. Great track IMHO
-
oo! Judge is sittin' in for JJ again this week. Cheryl Lynn, "Shake it Up Tonight". Show ya how to party right!
-
Judge is all about the ladies tonight:
Taste of Honey's nice cover of Smokey's "I'll Try Something New" (their follow-up to "Sukyaki"), followed by the Jones Girls, "Dance Turned into a Romance" and some Sister Sledge song that was new to me.
-
OMG! New Edition, "Popcorn Love". I have this LP on vinyl. Bobby Brown at age 14 -- if only we'd known.
