in the '80s Ruth Brown narrated a "History of R&B" series on NPR. Great stuff (I have a couple episodes on tape) but it basically turned into "The History of Ruth's Sex Life" ... "oh that Otis -- he was SO fine!" "And then I hooked up with Wilson Pickett..." And so on. And on.

I know we just heard this on Monday, but playing "Switching to Glide" without first playing "This Beat Goes On" is sacriligious!

Indeed!
but they made up for it with this weirdass Ray Wylie Hubbard tune.. And here's another of their "wrong version" GrassRoots tracks, "Heaven Knows". Surely they could get a correct GrassRoots GH CD on Amazon for 6 bucks.

Perfect post-lunch Percy.

Last year at the Morning Show's local appearance in Redwood City these guys were the live act that Ali & I saw. Apparently they used to open for the Dead back in the early 70's.

CGSS plays Ken Booth, the original (1974) reggae cover of Bread's "Everything I Own", which was the template for Boy George's version in 1988. Quite lovely.
