I think this warrants its own thread.
One I was thinking about just now:
The Turtles, "Sowing the Seeds of Love"
Others I've imagined in the past:
Franz Ferdinand, "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five" (Wings)
Nina Simone, "Feel Like Makin' Love" (Roberta Flack, you ninnies)
The Strokes, "No Good to Cry" (Wildweeds)
George Michael and Andy Bell duet, "Windmills of Your Mind" (Dusty)
Tracy Chapman, "If You Could Only See" (Tonic)
Booker T. & the M.G.'s, "Indian Reservation" (Don Fardon / Raiders)
Natalie Merchant, "Road to Nowhere" (Talking Heads)
Fred Schneider, well, anything, but especially
Fred Schneider, "Wild Wild Life" (Talking Heads)
Polyphonic Spree, "Porpoise Song" (Monkees)
Big & Rich, "Let Your Love Flow" (Bellamy Brothers)
Big & Rich with Cowboy Troy,- "M'Lady" (Sly & the Family Stone)
Evanescence, "Woman in Love" (Barbra Streisand)
Gretchen Wilson, "Lawman" (Jefferson Airplane)
Let's hear 'em.

Frank Sinatra, "Fruit Tree" (Nick Drake)

Frank Sinatra, "Fruit Tree" (Nick Drake)
I always wanted to hear Frank do Lennon's "Woman", in an uptempo, Nelson Riddle arrangement.
"Hey! Woman!" (bam!) "hold me close -- to your heart!"
And as I've said many times, F.Mac's "Blue Letter" would be a naturtal for Ms. Ronstadt.

I'm reading Syl's biography "The Fabulous Sylvester" right now. And it's, well... FABULOUS. As was this Beatles cover.

Transcription for those who foolishly did not click:
Sy: See, the first time I heard this song, it was the SIXTIES. And it was done by the BEATLES.
Woman (Martha Wash?): Tha WHO?
Syl: The Beatles.
Woman: Oh.
Syl: And the song had to do with ANIMALS, y'all.
Woman: What kind?!
Syl: BIRDS.
Woman: BIRDS?
Syl: BLACK birds. Patrick, pick up some BLACK birds for me!
And then they boogie on, reggae woman.

Stephen Colbert did a faux rant tonight about being in WalMart and being subjected to John & Yoko's "Happy Xmas" "Listen here, Lennon -- keep your hippie politics out of my holiday!" Then he suggested somebody do a mash-up of Xmas music and The White Album and call it The White Christmas Album. "Come on , Danger Mouse -- I know you watch the show".
You just KNOW somebody's gonna do it and post it on the 'net...
