it comes & goes, but it can be perfectly fine for long stretches. Judge (who is da MAN!) is playing Sly's "Jane is a Groupie" which I haven't heard in 30 years.

Yep, it's hit an miss, and for me today, it's been a big ol miss since just before Judge came on--constant buffering. I'm gonna groove elsewhere for now.

for the 2nd time this week, I get to hear Jackie DeShannon: JJ on KPOO plays "What the World Needs Now".
-
VIP's player is still down (since Friday!), so I went to CG and lo, it's Babs with "Woman in Love". It's a right she defends... over and over again.

you'll go right to CG to hear Elvis C covering Charles Aznavour's "She". I don't think I've ever heard this.

about when he started sapping out.

WLNG Nugget #1: The Drifters' "I Count The Tears", the song that The Grassroots stole their "sha-la-la-la-la-la live for today" chorus from.
-
VIP's player is still down (since Friday!).
BTW, I emailed them and was told the stream is down and will be back on August 3rd.

I was just over on KRSH, and they had a phone interview with Kris Kritofferson. Now they are playing an extended set of his tunes. Hoping to hear "Jesus Was A Capricorn", but not holding my breath.
-
KRSH-ing, and I'm hearing what sounds like Tony Joe White, but not "Polk Salad".
-
another KRSH delight: Pink Floyd, "St. Tropez"
and more: Derek/Dominoes, "Any Day" which I haven't heard on the radio in decades.
-
closing out the KRSH portion of my day: ABB and sweet Melissa.
-
WLNG Nugget o'the Day: Bill Cosby, "Little Old Man (Uptight)", one of the odder records ever to hit the Top 5.
-

I've never heard it! What's it sound like? Is it a comedy routine with the SW song cut in?

It's Cosby talking about a little old man he meets on the street who says weird stuff, and a Chorus (it ain't Stevie; wrong label) sings the chorus of "Uptight" at intervals. It really has to be heard to be believed -- and it got to number 4 nearly 2 years after the original hit!
-
CG-ing today: Herb Alpert, "The Sky's in Love With you"
-
another CG treat: George Michael turns a Different Corner. And ends up in the loo.
-
OMG! Phil Oakey/Giorgio Moroder, "Electric Dreams", one of the great lost tracks of the '80s. Fab.
and followed by Blondie's "Maria" a wonderful single that KFOG ignored when it was released in '98 or '99 or whenever it was. Yet they've played "Heart of Glass" incessantly for decades.

not to pick, but betcha it's "Call Me" & "One Way Or Another" they play to death, not so much "Heart of Glass".
Where's Darryl?????

oh yeah, OWOA is right up there too. Which is why I was shocked that they didn't play "Maria" -- Alice played it and it did well for them.

That song deserved to be a *much* bigger hit. It went to #1 in England but could only struggle into the 80s in America because radio's scared fuckless of older artists. See also the relative chart failure of Fleetwood Mac's "Peacekeeper," which also should have been a big pop hit.
-
WLNG Nugget o'the Day, Paul Revere & the Raiders, "Ups & Downs".
Nugget #2: Mama Cass, "Dream a Little Dream". I love de chunky mama!
-
OMGWTF! Frankie Valli, "Swearin' to God". I cannot remember when I last heard this.
"no one gets me up girl like you can" is a great mondegreen of that era.
-
someone help me -- help me -- help me pleeeeeeeease!
Donny Osmond's "Puppy Love" closes out my afternoon.
-
Popping in on CGSS until KRSH Soul Patrol time at noon.
OMG! Boyz2Men, "MotownPhilly"!
-
Soul Patrol in full effect! Otis!
-
Court's in session, y'all! Judge Shorty Long presiding.
"Judge, I got a boy here can't dance!"
-
a guest appearance by "Big Dave", some sort of soul music collector I guess.
Night-Lighters, "K-Gee"!
-
Jr Walker, "Pucker Up, Buttercup!"
Ah needs me a Jr Walker Best-of...
-
a guest appearance by "Big Dave", some sort of soul music collector I guess.
Night-Lighters, "K-Gee"!
Must be, but he's got a helluva collection. Some really nice stuff gettin' spun here--Jackie Wilson's Baby Work Out and then Sittin' in the Park, both rockin' my world.
Was looking at the KRSH staff page to see if Big Dave were maybe their overnight man or something (he's not) and saw a pic of Candi Chamberlain, the woman that does middays. She could be Alicat's sister!
(And Ivy Wolfe, who does weekend overnights, is really really cute!)
-
damn, I just remembered about Soul Patrol. I need to have some automated reminder!

But he dances like a white guy! LOL!
(Hey, I can relate...)
-
Back to CGSS for Shanice, "I Love Your Smile", one of the nicest pop singles of the '90s. "You dig?"
-
home from Miami Vice just in time for JJ on KPOO. He played Solomon Burke's "Electronic Magnetism", new to me, so I got out the R&B chart book, and it's from '71... but I discovered that Mr Burke did "Proud Mary" in '69, 2 years before Ike & Tina (and he got to 15 R&B and 45 Pop!) AND he did a soul cover of "Shambala" in '73!!

well, good thing I just-so-happened to turn on the radio early -- The Bone started Little Steven's show at 8:35 (!)
Some weeks it's on time; some weeks it starts at 9:10; some weeks 8:50... but 8:35 is reeeeeeally pushing it.
ETA: Steven's buried gem of the week -- Stiv Bators doing a cover of Slade's "Gud'buy to Jane", new to me, although (per Steven) it was recorded somewhere between his stints with the Dead Boys and the Lords of the New Church.
