JJ on a Tues morning: obscure Lou Rawls! Followed by more Marvin, do da funky Hitch-hike, baby!
-
nice thematic seg on VIP: "Mr Pitiful" into "Tired of Being Alone".
-
a Ree-Ree song I've never heard: "Integrity"
"Use some in-teg-ra-tee...
Look it up in yo' dic-shun-air-ree!"
-
interesting juxtaposition on CG: Sinatra's "My Way" and Dylan's "Postively 4th St".
-
John Kongas! "He's Gonna Step on Happy Mondays."
and after hearing Lennon's Chuck Berry cover this morning, this sounds a tad like "Come Together" in spots.
-
OMG! switched over to 'LNG in time for "Society's Child".
-
OMG2 and "Yikes!" -- Bobby Goldsboro, "Watchin' Scotty Grow".
-
TANC: 'LNG plays Anne Murray's wonderful "You Won't See Me". Wonder who that is on that fuzz-tone guitar.
-
VIP in fine form: Tavares' "Whodunit?", MJ's "Farewell My Summer Love", and Stevie's "Never had a Dream Come True".
-
OMG, VIP plays Babs'n'Barry, "Guilty". I cannot remember the last time I heard this.
-
VIP has been just spectactular today. From the late great Johnny Bristol's "Hang on in there Baby" to Betty Everett's orig "Gettin Mighty Crowded" to (afternoon cheeze break) "Indiana Wants Me"!
-
spoke too soon: Robbie Dupree channels Mikey McD on "Steal Away".
-
Dusty and that preacher man's son (this one never gets old). Followed by Pete Wingfield, "18 With a Bullet". Be my A-side, baby... be B-side me!
-
I can't... stop...posting!
Reparata & the DelRons! "Captain of Your Ship" a real late-'60s girl-group obscurity that Gaz would just love.
ETA: speaking of Gaz, here's a sunshine-poppish Kiki Dee, "On a Magic Carpet Ride". New to me.
-
Sonny James & the Checkmates, Ltd and their glorious Spectorized "Black Pearl".
-
another lost gem: The Dells medley of "Sing a Rainbow/Love is Blue".
-
PJ Proby, "Nikki Hoeky". This has been an a-MAY-zing afternoon o0f music.

I've only ever heard "I'm Nobody's Baby Now" from them. Would love to find this. As for the Dells track - I've never heard it; did they write lyrics for "Love Is Blue," or interpolate another song into its melody; or were there already lyrics pre-Mauriat?

Reparata rules! I think they also did "Whenever a Teenager Cries", which I do have on a tape somewhere.
re: "Love is Blue", somebody (dunno who) wrote lyrics after the instrumental was a hit; I remember hearing other singers do it on various Merv Griffin and Mike Douglas shows. "Blue, blue, my love is blue..."

here's that CG list I talked about last week: "essential" songs that never made the British Top 30...

CGSS gets down: Cerrone, "Supernature". And Ollie & Jerry's "Breakin' (Ain't No Stoppin' Us)" is comin' up.
-
played Fleetwood Mac's "Hypnotized" which just goes to show ya it's not all roots music. I was diggin' it big time as I was waiting for Travis T Hipp's news show, which had to do with Laura Bush.
