Ginger was talking about the Petty/McGuinn mututal admiration, but this is actually a Gene Clark composition. Not that there's anything wrong with that & I'll still give it a BOS vote.
Ooooh, BOS #2 The Cure! another song where the intro is practically a whole song by itself.

VHM Morgan Freeman in Glory.
-
wow, this Shawn Colvin song came out in '89? I first heard it when I started listening to KFOG in '92. It certainly didn't get any airplay in NYC.

VHM Morgan Freeman in Glory.
I was just checking IMDb to see if he got a nomination for that role (remembering of course the Denzel won), but he didn't. It did win 2 other Oscars, Cinematography & Sound, and was nommed for 2 more.

and props to Ginger for a deep cut off of Yellow Moon, instead of the ubiquitous title track.

Of course Mr Freeman got a Best Actor nom for Driving Miss Daisy instead. And lost to Daniel Day Lewis, iirc.

I think Ginger just tipped that we're about to hear Enya.

that's right. That was a year almost as weird as this past one, with lots of good movies knocking each other out of different categories, with Glory & Driving Miss Daisy & Born on the Fourth of July dividing up the major categories between them the way Crash & Brokeback did this year.

This guy (David Wilcox, per the KBCO "just played" feature) sounds a lot like James Taylor to these ears. A new one on me.

It's not that bad, but anyway some Pixies ought to make up for it!
BOS #3, "Here Comes Your Man"

Ditto, mildly shocked that it wasn't JT, especially after just hearing him in the Chi-town set.

indeed, and DMD was that rare Best Picture winner without a Best Director nom. Poor Bruce Beresford. And thus did Oliver Stone win his 2nd Directing Oscar.
-
VHM Stones, "Almost Hear you Sigh".
-
love that clip: Parenthood, featuring another Oscar nominee that year, Dianne Wiest.

There were a bunch of interesting nominees that year (including first ones for Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts, Dan Aykroyd, Danny Aiello & Steven Soderbergh), snubs (nothing for Do the Right Thing except Aiello's) & egregiously undeserving noms (Robin Williams for Best Actor when he wasn't even the lead in Dead Poets Society, both that movie & Field of Dreams for Best Picture instead of either Crimes & Misdemeanors or Do the Right Thing.
