I'm having a "Thunder Island" premonition.
-
Surprise of the set (so far): Aerosmith's cover of "Come Together".
-
Surprise #2/ BOS#1: "Hot Child in the City".
-
Surprise #3: Boston, "A Man I'll Never Be". Amazing how few songs from this LP you hear on the radio (other than "Don't Look Back").
This is turning into a very interesting set.
-
WOS: the Dead's incredibly white version of "Good Lovin"
BOS2: REO, "Time For Me to Fly". You Can Tune a Piano but you Can't Tuna Fish is one of the great album titles.
-
Joe Walsh - At the Station
Aerosmith - Come Together
Nick Gilder - Hot Child in the City
The Rolling Stones - When the Whip Comes Down
Boston - A Man I'll Never Be
The Cars - Moving in Stereo
George Thorogood - Move it on Over
Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing
The Grateful Dead - Good Lovin'
REO Speedwagon - Time For Me to Fly
-
I'm sorry to have missed "When the Whip Comes Down" more than anything else, with a close second on the BOS voting to REO.

As they might've said on last nite's Sopranos ep, "a gay in Noo Yawk is just a fag in Noo Joisey."

the Rascals weren't white?
But, it's true that the Dead transmogrified the song into more of a spiritual number, and not so sexual, in the post-Pigpen era.

the Rascals weren't white?
I knew somebody would say that! True, but the Rascals were soulful enough to score themselves hits on the R&B chart. I was just referencing the well-known rap on the Dead, which is that they did the whitest R&B covers this side of Linda Ronstadt, if not Pat Boone. One of the few things Dave Marsh & I agree on.

Wha-wha-what?! I know how Mike feels -- we've agreed to disagree -- but what's your beef?

Oh, just a general dislike for his know-it-all attitude, and the ridiculous deification of Bruce Springsteen he's famous for. He also digs the MC5! I have heard him talk, and sometimes it's interesting, but he's one of those classic rock critics who tries to elevate himself at the expense of an artist. I'll pay more attention next time he pisses me off so I have something more cogent to say!

I figured it was just his general Dead-bashing...

If I allowed myself to get irritated at every critic that doesn't get the Dead...
Is Marsh a GD-basher? I wouldn't be surprised.
