But Dad... it's SMOKEY!

The smooth one with a true classic, and one of the great couplets of all time:

Just like Pagliacci did
I try to keep my sadness hid

Don't be late ... for your MYSTERY DATE!

I simply don't know what to make of that.  Especially the gasps and moans.

BOS -- tho' I recall that being around much earlier than 1970.

ETA: it does indeed go back further but it's been updated many times; still on the market, in fact.

Song that needs to be mothballed for a year or 2: "Lola". Unless she's the Mystery Date...

HM, def.  Has anyone ever seriously examined Bobby Bloom's death?  Most sources call it a suicide, but enough couch it as "he accidentally shot himself in the head" that I've wondered what was up with that.

indeed, all the entries I've looked at via Google are split between "accident" and "suicide", but several mention he suffered from depression.

and here's another great couplet:

I don't need your war machine
I don't need your ghetto scene

BOS to Jack Nicholson.  Barry Scott once played that snippet and segued directly into Santa Esmerelda's cover of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood," a genius segue and one that I thankfully recorded.

hey, it pays the rent.

But Bob, the Coca cola/Cherry Cola switch had nothing to do with Coke -- it was re-dubbed because the BBC didn't allow product mentions, and the orig version was banned by the BBC, so they re-did it.
