I wonder if Todd would always win BOS in CO if Ginger did any voting?

BOS #1 - "Couldn't I Just Tell You?"

Keep your head and everything will be cool...

This is a Todd song worthy of BOS in any time zone.  Fab. Yoo. Luss.

BOS2 Neil, "Needle & the Damage Done".  I'm getting a 10-way-tie vibe already.

"Ahm comin', Elizabeth!"  BOS3 Redd Foxx.  Ditto Norman Whitfield's spectacular production job on this Temps classic.

BOS #3, Temps, Papa Was A Rolling Stone.  In my personal Top 40, this is my favorite #1 hit of all time.

Ginger needs to get herself a version of "and now for something competely different" if she's going to switch from Bonnie Raitt "Too Long At the Fair" into "Suffragette City".

Ow, hit me!

But I'd say we're five for five so far, BOS-wise.

and here's #6: Poco's "Good feeling to Know", which I think only Ginger has ever played. This was huge on NYC FM prog radio.

swap CBS and NBC, there bub, and you'd be correct.

Ab So Lute Lee

This's held up well over the years, too.  Esp. Timothy B. Schmit's fret-work.

Chiming in on a fab set. Wow. Was only able to listen minimally. Too bad there's no replay here.

Phone in those votes. See my post from last Friday

a note from Ginger:

I always enjoy your feedback on the show.
Sometimes I'll be playing a particular song and I'll ask myself
"what will the 10 at 10 Club think about this one?" True!

the motherlode of mondegreens. First verse, per Top 40 db:

"Women think I'm tasty
But they're always tryin' to waste me
And make me burn the candle right down
But baby, baby
I don't need no jewels in my crown"

It always sounds to me like Mick's saying "jewels in my frown", which I assumed was an attempt at cleverness that doesn't quite make sense.

in '77 when Linda Ronstadt covered it, she sang

"People think I'm crazy
Always tryin' to rape me"

(Or at least I think that's what she sang.)

Today's my turn to have no luck whatsoever in connecting to the BCO stream--not even hearing the Ford ad, although the graphic part is working. I've relaunched at least 3 times, same result. Damn.

#8 to Tull, even though it was the shortest possible edit of "Thick As A Brick", and now #9 "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed".  This has been a gorgeous set.

Ginger indulges in some revisionist history, playing Nick Drake's "Pink Moon", which got virtually no airplay at the time -- surprising, considering how Cat Stevens-ish this song is.

I was about to say that the only thing missing from this set was a real obscurity & then she delivered.  Definite ten-way tie.

And if it sounded Cat-Steven-ish then, it sure sounds Jack Johnson-ish today.

I remember taking the subway into Manhattan to see Fritz the Cat after taking a geometry final in June of '72.  X-rating or not, they let me walk right in.

Okay, beyond the obvious:
A) it starts with a trumpet solo (& a very Miles-ish, at that), which always gets me
B) is has some basso profundo vocals, which always gets me (cf SPinners Games People Play)
C) and it's one of the longest of all #1's & I'm a more-for-your-money kinda guy.

is it "officially" one of the longest? was the 45 the full version or an edit? (as oppposed to "Hey Jude" which was all 7 minutes on one side,  or "American Pie", which was one of those Pt. 1/Pt. 2 deals, iirc.)

It never occurred to me that I had to restrict myself to the single edit when compiling my list, but the short answer is I have no idea what the single looked like.  The track I have from the box set clocks in a 6:58, so it's definitely on the shortlist of long songs.  I may have to consult said box set's liner notes when I get home tonight.

If I had to settle for single edits, then Heart's "Magic Man" (with Nancy's solo ripped right out) would go from my second fave #9 of all time to #1 on my songs I hate list.

FWIW, I've never heard a "single edit" of PWARS, so I assume the 45 had the full seven minutes.  Your dismay at "Magic Man"'s edit mirrors mine for "Miracles."

And I think the three noted above are indeed the three longest #1s of all, followed distantly by "We Are the World" and "Silly Love Songs," and maybe "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," all of which are somewhere near the six-minute mark iirc.

I'm pretty sure "First Time Ever" was not the full version -- the edit was quite notorious back in the day for being rather badly done.
