KPOO givin' us some Ree-Ree! "The Weight", one of my fave covers of hers. Has any other artist had as many hits with covers of recent (within a year or so) hits? Take a load off your fanny!
-
ooo! Bill Withers, "Grandma's Hands" and "Who Is He And What is He To You?". Dad-gummit-ah!
-
Oh my -- Marlena Shaw, "Go Away Little Boy". Some Afro-Sheen, some Afro-Kleen, some Afro-Fluid, some Afro-Do-It-To-It!
-
for those who hate the Crusaders and/or Randy Crawford: Herp Alpert's rather mellow version of "Street Life", which is new to me.
and followed by the ultimate in mellow soul: Stevie's "Golden Lady".
-
Judge giving us an extended dose of a live Isaac Hayes LP. Groove on, Thetans, groove on!
-
Has any other artist had as many hits with covers of recent (within a year or so) hits?
"Pat Boone," he replied with a scowl.

I'll rephrase: "Has any other artist had as many hits with good and/or superior covers of recent (within a year or so) hits?"

OMG! Judge is playing the loooooooooong version of "Float On". An' mah name is Larry!
ETA: I'd forgotten just how endlessly long the loooong version is! Yikes.
-
JJ jammin' with Carla Thomas "I Like What You're Doin' to Me"!
followed by -- TANC -- the Dells' "There Is", mentioned by Gaz just t'other day.
and then... the Intruders' orig version of "Together".
-
wow, Laura Lee's 1971 version of "Since I Fell For You". Not sure if I have this at home.
-
OMG!!! Dean plays 10cc's "Life is a Minestrone"! Highlight of my week, for sure.
I'm dancing on the White House lawn
Sipping tea by the Taj Mahal at dawn
Hanging round the gardens of Babylon
Minnie Mouse has got it all sewn up
She gets more fan mail than the Pope
She takes the mickey out of all my phobias
Like signing cheques to ward off double pneumonia
Life is a minestrone
Served up with parmesan cheese
Death is a cold Lasagne
Suspended in deep freeze
I'm leaning on the Tower of Pisa
Had an eyeful of the tower in France
I'm hanging round the gardens of Madison
And the seat of learning
And the flush of success
Relieves a constipated mind
I'm like a gourmet in a skid row diner
A fitting menu for a dilettante
Life is a minestrone
Served up with parmesan cheese
Death is a cold Lasagne
Suspended in deep freeze
Love is a fire of flaming brandy
Upon a crepe suzette
Let's get this romance cooking, honey
But let us not forget
Life is a minestrone
Served up with parmesan cheese
Death is a cold Lasagne
Suspended in deep freeze
A top Ten single in the UK, tho' it did nothing over here.

Dean's 2nd OMG of the day: "Harper Valley PTA" . Heartland hypocrisy was never more relevant.
-
DDT-ing for the first time in ages. Geils, "Love Stinks", most appropriate as we head into Valentine's day.
"I been thru diamonds/I been thru minks" -- I assume that's a reference to Ms Dunaway?

Maybe he meant "minx"?

He put one of her minks on a wire hanger and the relationship was over...

CG brightens my lunch hour with Dusty & the PSBs. What've I... what've I... what've I...
followed by Sir Douglas Quintet, "She's About a Mover" and the Jacksons, "Can You Feel it?" ... now THAT's variety!
-
ooo! Gilbert O'Sullivan's delightful "Get Down", which surprisingly is not in Gaz's "Bottom 40".
-
OMG! Donny Osmond, "Sweet & Innocent".

If I ever expand to 50 (or 100), that'll make the cut, along with "Do Wah Diddy Diddy" and Jessica Simpson's version of "These Boots Were Made for Walkin'" and some other stuff that I've forgotten.
-
switched to WLNG just in time for the DiFrancos, "Heatbeat (It's a Lovebeat)".
-
Darlene Love "Not Too Young to Get Married".

actually it's Randy Crawford w/ the Crusaders.
But here's one of Whitney's best, "Queen of the Dykes", er, "Night".

No Way!? My ears deceived me?
-
Teddy! "Satisfaction Guaranteed (Or Take Your Love BacK)" -- shameful that this was not a big pop hit in the US.
-
Dying to hear Now that We Found Love. No time to try and email Greg.
-
Bionic Boogie (feat. Luther V), "Papillon (Hot Butterfly)". A hot butterfly would pretty much be a dead butterfly, wouldn't it?
-
JJ on KPOO gives us The Deele, "2 Occasions"! followed by new (?) Prince, "Call My Name", one of his "Do Me Baby"-type slow jamz. Hoo Lawd!

That was from his latest album, Musicology; it actually made the Hot 100 (though missed the Top 40) and won him a Grammy. He has a new one now called "Black Sweat" that sounds like a "Kiss" update, not bad.

Thank you kindly -- it was my first time hearing it and I may have to put Musicology on my "to get" list.

Definitely recommended, particularly the tracks "A Million Days" and "Cinnamon Girl," both of which hark to his rock guitar-centric days. I think you'll be happy with it.

JJ on KPOO pulls out some rare Sly: "I Get High on You". Followed by the Pointers' "You Gotta Believe".
