Word on the underground is that he's going to be joined by "surprise guest" Alicia Keys; one can only assume they're going to duet on "Let It Be."
Unless they do "Ebony & Ivory," which would be wrong six ways to Sunday.

Was there ever a time when "Ebony and Ivory" was right?
I need two more posts (after this one) for an even 100. My goal is to hit 200 before Mike makes it to a 1000.

And I'm right on your tail at 97 (including this one). I'd say we both have a good chance of hitting your goal, since we're both just under halfway to 200, where Mike has a ways to go to get to 500 (he's currently in the low 400s, 416 or something like that.)

It was only a joke.
Plus, the week after next i will be in training, and unavailable for posting.
But it's actual company sponsored and paid for professional training for the programming staff (asp.net 2.0). Kinda exciting.

You guys are well ahead of me, as this should be my 66th post. That's what I get for having been traveling on business 15 of the past 30 days.
Yikes!

indeed, according to TV Guide, Ms. Keys is already scheduled to be there. She's doing "'America the Beautiful' as a tribute to Ray Charles."

Saw Macca's halftime show. Survey says: Boring as fcuk. He started with "Drive My Car" and I nearly swore it was a sponsorship deal with Ford Blazers or something. Nicely done but not exciting. Then he went straight into "Get Back" and I wondered if he was going to change the line about "California grass." Happily, he didn't.
He had nothing to say to the crowd, really -- there must have been an incentive program behind that muzzle. Really, he's Sir Paul Fucking McCartney, he has more money than God herself, what has he got to lose by saying in between songs, "Dubya, you imbecilic twat, please toss yourself over a bridge, and by the way, I'm fucking glad I'm not an American right now"?
Instead of that he jumped straight from "Get Back" into "Live and Let Die," which I totally didn't see coming. A fireworks display was the perfect touch, though it didn't escape my attention that while displays of love and physicality are anathema to the reigning theocracy, a song with borderline violent overtones can be so celebrated and such wholesome family entertainment. I couldn't stop thinking about the fact that on American TV you can have two men shoot each other but you can't have two men kiss each other. Live and let die, indeed: what does it matter to ya, when you've got a job to do, you've got to do it well.
Which was pretty much Paul's credo for this set. He finished up with -- shocker! -- "Hey Jude," replete with the obligatory singalong and the not-so-obligatory display of red, white and blue placards. Who knew a song about young Julian's reaction to daddy's divorce would become co-opted in the name of jingoism? Maybe Paul should have noted that this is the pain that results when a white man leaves a white woman for an Asian woman, to appease the fundie subset of the theocracy. (Is it only Bob Jones U. and the Mormons who are aghast at race-mixing, or do the SoBaps follow this too?)
Not exactly a proper review but that's where my head is at.

Gaz & Me -- posting at the same moment!
It was a typical old-school SB halftime, mass appeal and inoffensive. Surprised they let him do "Get back", what with the reference to "California grass".
I mentioned the possiblity of Alicia Keys dueting on "Ebony & Ivory" and one of my friends said, "nah... she's not Ebony enough."

But surely you dug Gladys Knight playing rugby?

That Gladys commercial was just weird. And wrong.
I enjoyed the halftime show. Paul's vocals were superb, as you would expect. The same could not be said for John Fogerty who did a couple songs (Fortunate Son and Bad Moon Rising) a couple hours before the game. His voice was just annoying. Not that it was ever pretty. But at least he had the balls to play Fortunate Son, a song with some bite.
Also, did you guys catch Charlie Daniels -- it was the "son of a gun" version...

What I liked besides Paul in the 1/2 time show was the stage. Never seen graphics on the walkways like that. I'm sure it will now show up in concerts. It would be hot for Aerosmith but I guess the only way to get the viewing impact is to be above it and or at a distance (not where I want to be).

i loved macca.
glad i missed not-so-ebony

Gaz I meant to ask... where did you end up watching the game? Did you get invited to Cyd Zeigler's SB Party?
And also, did you read that piece in the NY Times by a gay writer about football ("The Patriots made a man out of me")?

I actually played flag football with Cyd Ziegler on Saturday. But no, I didn't watch the SB with him. I went to Splash in Chelsea, lured in by the prospects of 50-cent beers (the price, not the gangsta), free pizza, and go-go boys afterwards.
Unfortunately, I failed to recognize that the other patrons *would have no interest in the game*. I was one of very few who was engrossed in the game itself. Ran into about 7 people I play softball with/against. One of them dragged over to me this guy he'd wanted to fix me up with for some time: he writes film reviews/previews for TV Guide, and my friend Peter figured, "you're a writer, he's a writer, you'll love each other" -- and then took off, leaving us to our own devices. The guy kept trying to engage me in conversation about film while laughing that he didn't know anything about the game, and I was trying to ignore him and watch the game. GAHH. I should've gone to a straight bar.

P.S. No, I didn't see the NYT piece. Will search for it now, hoping it's still in the free archives. Thanks for lookin' out real good, as Kanye West would say.
