KPOO soul is just what I need on this endless Monday. "Dancin' Machine"!
-
OMG! Sly, " I Get High On You".
-
wow, "Mr Dream Merchant", followed by Lamont Dozier's "Fish Ain't Bitin'", one of the angriest political rants ever to make the Top 40.
"Tricky Dick -- Stop yo' shit!"
-
Jim Gilstrap, "Swing it Daddy", which I've only ever heard on CG.
And now he's pulled out the Salsoul Orch's early disco nugget, "Tangerine"!
-
wow, something by Sylvia besides "Pillow Talk". "Sweet Stuff" (?)
and now "Free Man" by South Shore Commission -- another one I haven't heard since the mid-'70s.
and MJ & his brothas, "Goin Places", followed by -- OMGWTF! -- Gary Tom's Empire, covering the Beatles' "Drive My Car" disco-style.
Judge is just slammin' today!
Sylvers, "Hot Line"! I'm exhausted from cube dancing!

Trainwreck segue of the week:
Whoever was on KPOO Mon afternoon around 5:30 played this trifecta:
Ray Charles, "What'd I say?", into
Bette Midler, "Mambo Italiano", into
ReFlex, "The Politics of Dancing"
-
You'd think I'd be burnt out on Pickett by now, but no. He's certainly getting far more tributes & accolades than Lou Rawls did a week ago. "Don't Let the Green Grass Fool You", followed by "Don't Knock My Love". Go JJ! Good God-a-mighty, lawd!
-
Gots to be a Midnite Mover!
-
a CG treat: Captain Sensible, "Happy Talk".
-
another gem: Rod the Mod w/ Python Lee Jackson, "In a Broken Dream".
Followed by TJ, "Daughter of Darkness"!
-

an only-on-CG moment: Esther & Abi Ofarim's delightfully goofy "Cinderella Rockafella", followed by... "We Are the World". Trainwrecks R Us!
-
WLNG Nugget o' the Day: Mark Lindsay, "Arizona". (the afternoon jock is going on vacation -- heading our way -- and he played "San Francisco", "Do You Know the way to SJ" and then the Lindsay tune.)
-
CG surprise: Suzi Quatro, "Devil Gate Drive".
Surprise #2: "Tarzan Boy" oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh!
-
One of those WTF/never-heard-THIS-before songs CG is famous for: a reggae cover of the Checkmates Ltd's wonderful "Black Pearl". Highlight of the day so far.
-
WLNG Nugget o' the Day: "Goodbye", Mary Hopkin's lovely follow-up to "Those Were the Days".
-
WLNG Nugget o' the Day: Mark Lindsay, "Arizona". (the afternoon jock is going on vacation -- heading our way -- and he played "San Francisco", "Do You Know the way to SJ" and then the Lindsay tune.)
Did you offer to show him around the city?

He's totally my type (I've seen pics) but you can't email the jocks thru the 'LNG website and I couldn't call long distance to LI from work. But I'm intrigued by a supposedly straight guy (based on his on-air persona) coming to SF alone on vacay.

CGSS is slammin! "Nothin' Goin' On But The Rent", baby!
Wow, I never realized that was a Sly & Robbie production.
-
WLNG Nugget o' the Day: 1910 Fruitgum Co, "1-2-3 Red Light", my fave song of theirs , and one the Talking Heads used to do live, back in the CBGB's days.
