Can't says I've ever really heard this Top of the Hour Cooker before.
-
Early BOS for "I Want A New Drug". We have been bemoaning the fact that Dave played every other Huey Lewis song, so props are finally due.

I can't identify it either.
But I know "I Want a New Drug" when I hear it. And so did Ray Parker, when he ripped it off for "Ghostbusters" -- be nice if Dave segged into that.

David Gilmour, from his 2nd solo record. Blue Light, I think.
-
Huey Lewis wants a new drug and I want to, like, not hear this song....

Woulda' been. Instead it's one of the many Petty side-projects of the mid-80s.

VHM for Parsons. I think his stuff holds up fairly well, how come it's not part of the everyday World Class Rock format?

it's one of the mysteries of radio -- why don't they play the Smiths either? It's (presumably) about what "tests well" with focus groups.

Funny, I was thinking how by the time this song came out, he'd kind of resorted to formulaic songwriting and production--most of his stuff from the early 80s on starts sounding very similar.
On the other hand, I have a soft spot for this John Waite song, dated tho it may be. He's got a great pop voice. Ear candy, indeed.
-
I can't hear Alan Parsons without thinking of Dr Evil....
-
Something from Bruce Cockburn's Stealing Fire other than "Lovers In A Dangerous Time" or "If I Had A Rocket Launcher", but still no "Dust and Diesel", which (imho) is by far the best track on this excellent album.

That's true, and by this point, his singles had become staples of "adult contemporary" radio. So his hipness quotient (to a lot of purists) had gone down. Which may be why his stuff from that period doesn't test well with your typical Foghead.

It's the Whiz after the Buzz.
Yay! Pretty much my favorite song of this year.

"Dust and Diesel", which (imho) is by far the best rack on this excellent album.
I hear his wife has a great rack too.
BOS Style Council, this makes 2 tracks that Rob played Monday on the Peak's '84 set (the other was "Girls" by Twilley).
-
Wait- who has a great rack?

Nicolette Sheridan.
Oh wait, wrong thread.
I BOS'd the Style Council tune as well--although this Cars song, with all its 10cc-ness, is yet another guilty pleasure. RIP, Ben Orr.

LOL!

Hard to believe I'm up to BOS #3 already, but have to give another one to Ultravox.
-
BOS2 "Dancing With Tears in My Eyes", which I get the impression Dave's done a lot of.
-
And another BOS to the Ultravox tune. Plinky synths, tempered with actual guitars!
-
VHM Daryl Hall's backing vox on "Only Flame", but I'd like to hear something else from this LP for a change.
-

Trivia: Four of the artists in today's set played at Live Aid in 1985. Which ones? Two of them were among the first acts to play at the London Live Aid show, and they performed the songs we heard in today's set.
Bonus points: who was the first act onstage at Live Aid?

What was the answer?
Interestingly, Ginger's question after her 1969 set this morning was "Who was the first act onstage at Woodstock?"
A.) Richie Havens

The last four artists of the set were all Live Aid performers:
Style Council, Ultravox, and Elvis Costello in the UK, the Cars in Philadelphia. (My Ever Changing Moods and Dancing With Tears in My Eyes were among the songs that they played.)
The first act on stage at Live Aid: Status Quo.
