Oh joy. I am cringing already.
ETA: Sorry for the negativity right off the bat. It's just that when I hear "1982" I automatically think "Men at Work." Sort of a Pavlovian thing, but it's the truth.
-
I'll take the optimistic POV.

Good Ol Polly Purebread--always looking on the bright side.
I did kind of dig the muted pizzicato picking that was buried in the left channel of the Fleetwood Mac tune--never noticed that before.
Cars. No comment.

We had to endure Men At Work on the Morning Show ("Land Down Under". Some Foghead won the Request-o-Rama with the answer of "Sydney, Australia" and thought it would be appropriate. God, I hate Fogheads sometimes...)
-
"Since You've Gone", followed by Belushi's funeral. Co-inky-dink? I think not.
I share urth's pessimism.

I hate Fogheads most of the time. Didja hear the Pop Quiz today? Shamefully stupid people.
And while I've got the crankypants on... howcum KFOG is allowed to say the title of the Blues Traveler CD ("Bastardos") but censors the word "bastard" in the John Hiatt song?

I remember that day - I was skiing at Loveland Pass, CO. Also was skiing when John Hinkley shot Reagan. 1982 - I predict Haricut 100 and the Human League
-
BOS for Strange Advance and "Worlds Away". And saddest of set for John Belushi dying. I remember when I heard it; I was really upset. Quite a bit more so than upon hearing that John Lennon had died. So sue me.
-
Spicolli - That guy's been stoned since the third grade

great song, but I'm stuck in a computer lab with kids who can't pass the high school exit exam in math!
-
BOS for Strange Advance and "Worlds Away".
Certainly the strongest candidate so far (Roxy is right in there too), but I'll hold my vote for the time being.
-
BOS Spicoli and Mr Hand. (not to be confused with Mr Hat and Mr Twig.)

BOS Spicoli and Mr Hand. (not to be confused with Mr Hat and Mr Twig.)
I broke the dam.

Hmm, the same Beat song in KBCO's '83 set shows up in Dave's '82 set. Who is right?
Movie quiz: Can you name all three voices heard in that clip from Fast Times At Ridgemont High?

When I worked at ABC in the '80s it became a running joke that famous people either died or were shot on my day off: Lennon, Reagan, Belushi, Karen Carpenter, the Pope...

Heyyyyy, you didn't tell us they're be a quiz! If I'd known, I woulda paid attention. As it is, I can only tell you about Sean Penn and My Favorite Martian, I mean Ray Walston. I'd say there's an outside chance that it was Judge Reinhold since he showed up in a bunch of small roles before he was famous.

Another great ep, as was the Drawn Together premiere. Not sure where they're going this season, but it looks totally over-the-top from the coming attractions.
Have you seen The Colbert Report?

You were like the Jessica Fletcher of ABC NY!
I'm BOSing Billy Idol and I don't wanna hear any back-talk....

You can't always get what you want. I think this one is stinky.
-
Have you seen The Colbert Report?
Not yet. I hate to say this- but it's on past my T-F night bedtime.
I do enjoy hearing him do voices on Harvey Birdman, though.

Reinhold was in Fast Times, but I don't think he was Pizza Guy.

True- there are better Idol songs- but at least it woke me up....

In this set, anything is fair game. Worlds Away is looking stronger to me, since I asked Dave if Peter Gabriel would be popping up today too (Security was '82) and he said nope.
Btw, Dancing With Myself was one of the many covers that Green Day whipped out last week. Review is still TK, I promise.

He was pretty much the main character.

It's FRENCH... bitch! And it's repeated at 8:30 the following nite. It's VERY funny, but parodying Bill O'Reilly (who was a guest on the Daily Show Tues nite, how's that for synergy?) is kinda limiting, I don't know how far they can go with it before it gets repetetive.

2 out of 3, but Judge Reinhold, although he's one of the classmates called up (Hamilton!) to eat Spicoli's pizza, didn't speak. Who was the pizza guy?

I've been wanting to catch it, but I've got the same problem as Beej--by 11:30 I'm usually semiconscious at best. But I've got a vested interest as a guy who wrote digital camera and video-game reviews for us jumped ship a month or so back to go to work as a writer for Colbert. He's hilarious, so I have high hopes for the show itself.

Damn. Of course he was. What am I thinking?
EDIT: so technically, he did have a small part in that scene. So I'm not a total idiot.
-
Yay! A Flock Of Seagulls "Space Age Love Song". Now that says 80's for me.
-
BOS Crock O'Seigals. This always flashes me back to when one of the suburban NY rock stations (WLIR) switched to a New Wave format that summer -- and they played this LP to death.
-
Who was the pizza guy?
I just looked it up. LOL! They'll never get it. Hell, I didn't get it until I actually saw his pic and went "Oooohhhh... THAT guy!".
He's one of those character actors you see all the time but whose name you can never remember.
-

It certainly does. And it says exactly why I hated the 80s when they were happening. I can be nostalgic about them now. Though this set has several songs in it that I really like, especially Roxy Music.
-
Play it, Stevie Ray!

Oh Barbara! Nucular???

Kinda like Bruno Kirby? (But he wasn't the Pizza Guy.)

This is Mshray's trivia question, not mine- MISTER "THIS IS A STINKY BILLY IDOL SONG"....

Well I always remember him as a very funny stand up guy who got on Carson quite a bit. His voice is quite distinctive.
Some additional FTaRH trivia. Name the following actors who had minor parts/cameos who went on to much bigger things later:
1) Spicoli's two stoners who fell out of the smoke filled van were played by ____ & ____.
2) Brad Hamilton's friend who sits with him in the cafeteria was played by ____.
3) When Spicoli says the famous line, "People on 'Ludes should NOT drive," he was driving the car of his friend's older brother, the football star, played by ____.

Men At Work twice in one morning sucks.

I'm gonna BOS Men at Work just for that!
Just kidding. That's cruel and unusual punishment.
-
Tell us another part he played...
Like I said, he was a stand up mostly, but he did a really great turn as the assassin chasing Bruce Willis & Damon Wayans all over L.A. in The Last Boy Scout.

I think one of the stoners was Keanu Reeves, and the car is owned by Forrest Whittaker.

Men At Work twice in one morning sucks.
I guarantee you there are Fogheads who are disappointed if we don't hear MAW in an '82 set. Because Fogheads drool!

No on Keanu, yes on Forrest.

1a. Anthony Edwards - when he had hair
1b. - dunno Carrot Top? I think he had red hair anyway

Fast Times Triva Answers:1) Spicoli's two stoners who fell out of the smoke filled van were played by Eric Stoltz & Anthony Edwards (2 frink pts for Rastermon on Edwards & an extra pt for the red hair).

These two guys were friends in Santa Barbara as early teens & roommates at USC.
2) Brad Hamilton's friend who sits with him in the cafeteria was played by Nicolas Coppola (who then started using the stage name Nicolas Cage so as not to unfairly draw on his uncle Francis' coattails).

3) When Spicoli says the famous line, "People on 'Ludes should NOT drive," he was driving the car of his friend's older brother, the football star, played by Forrest Whitaker (2 frink pts for Davefish).

The pizza guy was Taylor Negron
(http://ia.imdb.com/media/imdb/01/I/11/26/58m.jpg)
and yes, I knew all that stuff off the top of my head.
-
Mark, did you really expect anybody to guess "Taylor Negron"? I've never heard of him.

Well he's had over 100 film & TV credits, so I can't imagine you've never seen him in something, plus which he is Chuck Negron from 3 Dog Night's cousin(!). What more do you want?

Wow, I never knew Taylor was related to Chuck. I had him on the tip o' me tongue (could see his face in front of me but drew a blank, name-wise). He's one of those guys that, being a tad, er, fey (no relation to Tina), people assume is gay, but he's keeping mum on the subject. Maybe he should team up with Bronson Pinchot.
