YAY!! Mendocino!

YAY!! Mendocino!
indeed. Play it Augie! Early BOS, but '69 tends to veer into 10-way-tie territory,
-
YAY!! Mendocino!
BOS Doug Frahm! I've got his greatest hits CD in case anyone is interested.

Doug Frahm? Surely you jest!
Btw, Mike is right about the likelihood of 10-way ties, and so far we're living up to that, with the Jeff Beck tune and Barabajagal.

BOS2 "Sweet Cherry Wine" -- Bob's played this, but I can't remember Dave spinning it... unless I'm confused.
-
Ya got some good tambourine playin' in "Sweet Cherry Wine"...
-
Don't know what I'm hearing, but it sounds good.
-
WTF? John, "Love"? in '69???
-
I don't mean to be disrespectful to John Lennon- but "Love" just might prove John could be just as inane lyrically as Sir Paul.

Love is touch
Touch is Love.
Makes sense to me!
-
Anyone zeroed in on the vinyl yet? I thought Sweet Cherry Wine might be a likely candidate, but it sounded pretty clean. No warmth.

LOL! I dunno... sounds awfully "June and moon" to me...

I think it's the Banana Splits Theme that's on vinyl!

I definitely heard crackles at the end of SCW.

that's 2 days in a row Dave's played the full-length version of a TV theme he usually "samples". Yay!
Always a BOS for Nilsson. VHM "Wishful Sinful"
-
HM to a Doors song Dave doesn't seem to play much.
-
BOS 4 (?) Rascals, although "See" is borderline Katrina. The Rascals anthology on Rhino is a must-have.

I will defer to you then--I'm trying to do about three other things while listening today, and working on minimal sleep. The Green Day thing went til just before 1 last night. Great show, but my age is showing this morning. Oh well--glad I was there. More deets later in the Concert Thread.
-
BOS Supes for Coke. Demerits for Dave's umpteenth spinning of "Someday We'll Be Together" as a set-closer.
-
BOS Diana
-
A short set, but a good set. Gonna miss the replay tomorrow as we'll be heading to Diz Knee Land. In fact we'll be gone Mon & Tues as well. My Bro' whom many of you met will be joining up with us on Sunday, I'll be sure to say Hi to him from y'all.
-
so am I crazy? Isn't Lennon's "Love" from late 1970?

have fun! I'll be on vacay next week, not going anywhere but sleeping in, so I'll be around for Dave but not Peak/Drive/'BCO. If anyone's up for lunch, just shout. Back at work Tues 10/25.

Are Fogheads totally drug-addled? Or just slow?
The quiz winner was given some fine choices (John Mayall, Tull, Zappa) and he says "I was hoping for some Banana Splits". Annalisa, somewhat flustered: "er, we did them already..."
He chose the Zappa, at least. "Peaches en Regalia". Maybe he has a fruit fetish...

I prefer the Leitch of Love: "Love is hot, truth is molten."

BOS to Nicky Hopkins for his work on "Barabajagal." One of the most underappreciated side musicians ever.

Ah, were I ever to hear "Edward the Mad Shirt Grinder" again on the radio!

alternate lyrics rejected by Donovan before he finally settled on "goo goo barabajagl":
"Koo koo ka choo, Mr Barabajagl"
"I am the Barabajagl, goo goo ga joob"
"All we need is Barabajagl Ga Ga, Barabajagl Goo Goo..."

BOS Supes for Coke. Demerits for Dave's umpteenth spinning of "Someday We'll Be Together" as a set-closer.
But belated VHM to the late Johnny Bristol for his "duet" vocal. Why did it take people 30 years to finally figure out/admit that it was his uncredited voice? I mean, he produced and co-wrote it, and it's not like nobody knew what he sounded like. As recently as the late '80s, when Nelson George wrote his excellent Motown book Where Did Our Love Go?, the identity of the singer was still a speculative "mystery" -- some people swore it was Berry Gordy. WTF?

From the Billboard Book of Number One Hits, here's Bristol:
"That was Berry Gordy's decision. Diana was getting a little tired in the studio, and he and I could see we weren't getting the feeling from her that we wanted. I suggested if I went in the other booth and sang with her, just sort of gave her a little inspiration, that it might spark a little more feeling. Gordy liked what I did so much, he said he was going to keep it on."

Thanks! What's the copyright on that book? Nelson George's book (which is a wonderful read, BTW) was written in '85.
