I wonder if the Purple Haze was the Woodstock version, which was released in '70 but may have lingered on the airwaves. Otherwise the studio version is '67, and there doesn't appear to have been a pre-release.

Interesting choice then. With Jimi having died in September 1970, it would make sense that his music would get a lot of airplay in subsequent months.
