CG update:  in addition to the changes reagrding CGSS and Sweeney's Rock Show... Dean's Jukebox is going away, tho' he'll still be with the station, apparently.  (last Jukebox tomorrow, 8/2/07)

It seems the station is undergoing a name change as well, as of Friday night -- no hint as to what the new name is.

New to me: "Morning Glory" by James & Bobby Purify -- this is what I'm gonna miss about Dean's Jukebox.

BTW, the new station name apparently is, simply, "Gold".  Cue Spandau Ballet!

and Dean's Jukebox is undoubtedly the only place in the world where I can hear the Osmonds' "Love Me For a Reason" followed by the Waterboys' "Whole of the Moon".

appropriate selection for a last show: John Miles' fabulously bombastic "Music" (an Alan Parsons production, iirc).

Expanded CGSS: the best thing about the "new" station that CG is morphing into.  Alex O'Neal, "Fake". Patty, Patty!

So how's it been so far? Any discernible change in playlist? Or Greg's on-air personality, for that matter? I just tuned in, but it seems like he's reining in his rants and comments a bit.

And has he slipped and said "Capital Gold" at all?
Let's get right to it.

It seems more music-intensive than before (and the new station slogan is "It's All About the Music"); song-wise it's been like CGSS's Greatest Hits, which is not to say anything's changed in a major way.  Earlier someone requested the Staples' cover of "Slippery people" and he said he didn't have it -- I know he's played it before, so I'm not sure if that meant "it's no longer in the computer" or "I don't have it handy, and it's one I have to bring in from home" (which is true of a lot of songs he plays).  But he's been good about saying "Gold" without the capital (The website hasn't changed yet).

Gary Ziep now playing Bread's Everything I Own--yet another band that was pretty huge in their time but I don't think has ever turned up in a 10@10 for the early 70s--at least not in a helluva long while.

Indeed, another band that Dave tends to avoid despite their having had 12 Top 40 singles in 7 years.  Ironically, the Bread tune that has shown up most often was their lowest-charter (and only non-ballad), "Mother Freedom" (#37 peak).  I think he's played "Guitar Man" once or twice.

Of course the Brits love "Everything I Own" -- it's been a UK hit THREE times: the orig in '72, a reggae version that hit #1 by Ken Boothe (who?) in '74, and the Boy George cover of the Boothe arrangement (also #1)in '87.
