OMFG Falco, "Vienna Calling" -- this really was quite the rarity-fest.  Would that all '86 sets were this wacky.

This is one of the three that busted out in this set, and haven't appeared since. Stay tuned for tunes 7 and 8, although you probably won't be as excited about them.
Let's get right to it.

The pride of Austria, our very own...Falco!

Nice self-promotion, and BOSFRA.

in case you missed the Falco parody "Rock Me Jerry Lewis" in another thread recently...

I like you avatar Mike.  I've always liked Patrick McGoohan, especially in Scanners.

Did you know how many huge roles he truned down in his career, even in the past decade?

indeed, James Bond *and* Simon Templar!  But I love this bit from Wiki:

So you're saying that Roger Moore made his career taking Patrick McGoohan's leftovers? What other parts did McGoohan turn down?

And also both Gandalf & Albus Dumbledore.

Do you like anything else by Lynch, I mean really like?

Won't argue that, but that's the role that did for Dennis Hopper what The Wrestler is doing for Mickey Rourke right now.

Eraserhead is interesting -- weird in a good way.  Mulholland Drive is probably the closest I've come to liking a Lynch film. He's just one of those directors that strikes me as being (here's that phrase again) willfully obscure.  "I'm gonna put a lot of meaningless nonsense in a movie and the critics will think it's profound". Maybe he should collaborate with Rush  ;)

ETA: Oh, I really liked The Straight Story, the least-Lynchian of his films. But -- amazingly -- I've never seen Elephant Man

VHM Sting. This really was one of Dave's better '86 efforts, and we didn't even get the Blow Monkeys.

What'd you think of Twin Peaks?

Btw, The Elephant Man was a Lynch film too, wasn't it?

He's really one of those wacked out artists you'd find working in all kinds of weird media (literally true) who somehow fell into film as a second career.  But I liked most of his films and saw just a bit of Blue Velvet the other night.

See I loved Twin Peaks, and I thought Elephant Man was excellent (nominated for 8 Oscars, but shut out).
