30 October 2006--it's...1981
« on: October 30, 2006, 10:02:47 AM »
Halloween set coming up tomorrow!

And Dave is back to plugging the beef in the McD's commercial.

Dreaming of Monday--a logical beginning.

ETA:
TANC: Last night while carving pumpkins, Sarah & I listened to disc 2 of the Jam box. This song wasn't on it, but now I feel a Jam binge coming on....
Let's get right to it.

Really? Out here, The Voice got more airplay than Gemini Dream, the other single off this album.

Really digging the multi-synth parts from Patrick Moraz on this tune. Lots of nifty stereo panning effects and such.

To me, it's a bit of a retread of earlier, better MBs songs.  Still better than their nadir, that rip-off of "Running On Empty" whose title escapes me at the moment.

Enjoying the full Santana experience here.  Sounds like two Santana songs with a Journey song wedged in between, for obvious reasons.

And as if to illustrate the early-'80s discussion SFGuy & I just had in Friday's thread... here's the Cars!

Sorry I missed the Jam of course, but it's not uncommon to hear it from Dave.  Haven't heard Santana's "searchin'" for a while, VHM for now, hoping Dave has somehting better yet to come.

I'm pondering your "Running on Empty" rip comment.  I can't think of anything that sounds like that.  Any clues?

Actually I alwasy think of this as a Russ Ballard tune using Santana (the group) as a high profile bunch of session guys.  Likewise for "Winning".

It's an early-'80s Moodies song. If you heard it, you'd know exactly what I mean.

BOS2 Pretenders!

Ditto. I remember thinking at the time that this was a weird choice for a single (it stiffed, IIRC), but man, did it cook live. They came thru here in late August of 81, sold out two Warfield shows in a heartbeat. Came back the following February, sold out Kaiser Aud, and a few months after that half the band was dead.
Let's get right to it.

This set is starting to replicate a lot of my concert-going from the summer of 81 (except for the Cars and the Jam). If we hear El-Rayo X that will seal the deal.

"over me
over you
over everybody"

I'm bailing in a few, I'm off to be "injected, inspected, detected and selected" as Arlo once said.
